Old School RS: A Thieving Guide to Maximizing XP and GP

Apr-10-2024 PST

With the release of Vore, a new activity in Old School RS, players have been thronging the streets of the once-great city of Savant Sil Fortis. In this article, we'll delve into the intricacies of thieving, particularly focusing on the lucrative opportunities presented by robbing wealthy citizens in the bazaar. I'm here to guide you through the new content of Vore, specifically focusing on thieving. This guide will help you master thieving, and maximizing both XP and GP.

Thieving Mechanics:

To engage in thieving within the bazaar, you'll need a thieving level of at least 50. The NPCs you'll be targeting are wealthy citizens, and one of the unique aspects of this activity is the ability to auto-pickpocket them for some time while they're distracted. This mechanic offers varying degrees of AFK (Away From Keyboard) gameplay, depending on your preference.

Auto-Pickpocketing vs. Manual Pickpocketing:

I began by experimenting with auto-pickpocketing for one hour. During this time, I observed that each pickpocket yielded 96 thieving experiences and 85 coins. However, if you possess the Rogues outfit, the coin yield doubles. After an hour of auto-pickpocketing, I accumulated 52,000 thieving XP, 94,000 coins, and 62 house keys. While this method offers convenience, the XP and GP gains are moderate.

In contrast, manual pickpocketing, alternating between distractions, proved more rewarding. This method yielded approximately 130,000 XP per hour, along with 210,000 GP and 160 house keys. The increased engagement required for manual pickpocketing translated into significantly higher rewards compared to auto-pickpocketing.

Hybrid Approach:

For those seeking a balance between AFK gameplay and higher rewards, a hybrid approach combining both auto-pickpocketing and manual pickpocketing can be adopted. This method provided around 109,000 XP per hour, 166,000 GP, and 104 house keys, offering a compromise between convenience and efficiency.

Thieving from Houses:

After exploring thieving in the bazaar, I turned my attention to robbing houses using the keys obtained from wealthy citizens. Each hour of thieving in houses yielded approximately 74,000 XP, along with valuable loot such as statues and jewelry. Despite being less intense than pickpocketing, this method still offered respectable XP and GP gains.

Maximizing Efficiency:

Throughout my thieving endeavors, I discovered several tips to enhance efficiency:

    • Utilize Dodgy Necklaces: These items reduce the chance of being stunned while thieving, allowing for smoother gameplay.

    • Pay Attention to Sound Effects: Enabling sound effects alerts you when the homeowner returns, facilitating AFK gameplay.

    • Optimize Bank Trips: Regularly bank stolen loot to free up inventory space and maximize thieving uptime.

    • Upgrade to Gladiator Rank: Achieving Gladiator rank at the Forest Coliseum increases the value of stolen valuables, boosting overall profits.

Thieving in Old School RuneScape's Vore update offers lucrative opportunities for skilled players. Whether you prefer AFK gameplay or active engagement, there are methods to suit your playstyle. By mastering thieving mechanics and employing efficient strategies, you can maximize both XP and GP gains.
