Fast & Easy Method to Get Ecto-Tokens in OSRS

Mar-20-2026 PST

Hey gamers, Steely here! Today, we’re diving into a simple and efficient method for collecting Ecto tokens in Old School RuneScape. While these tokens aren’t essential for most of your Runescape grind, there are a few quests and activities where you’ll definitely need them. If you’re like me, you rarely think about Ecto tokens—until you actually need them. So let’s break down exactly what they’re for, how to get them, and the best way to farm them.

Why You Need Ecto Tokens

Ecto tokens might seem trivial at first, but they do have some specific uses in OSRS:

· Quests: You’ll need around 50 tokens to complete the Ghosts Ahoy and Animal Magnetism quests.

· Cosmetic Items: After completing Animal Magnetism, you can buy an Undead Chicken from Malcolm for 10 tokens. It’s purely cosmetic but adds a fun little twist to your adventures.

· Travel: Every trip to Dragon Tooth Island costs 25 tokens (reduced to 10 if you wear the Ring of Keros). Alternatively, you can permanently unlock free trips by paying the Ghost Captain 500 tokens. After Ghosts Ahoy, the island mainly serves as a destination for elite or master clue scroll steps.

· Bone Crusher: Ecto tokens are required to charge the Bone Crusher and Bone Crusher Necklace, rewards from the Hard Morytania Diary. When charged, this tool automatically buries bones for XP. You get half XP if you’ve completed the hard diary, and full XP if you've completed the elite diary.

Other than these activities, you probably won’t need Ecto tokens regularly—but it’s handy to have a stockpile ready just in case.

What You’ll Need to Farm Ecto Tokens

To generate Ecto tokens, you’ll need two main resources: bone meal and buckets of slime. Here’s a breakdown of each:

1. Buckets of Slime

You have a few options for obtaining slime:

· Buy from Traders: The fastest method is buying slime from traders in the Fishing Trawler area. You can world-hop to buy as many as you want, then bank them in the nearby chest. Slime can also be purchased in Port Phasmatys, but traveling back and forth from the bank is slower.

· Collect at the Ectophontis: You can take empty buckets to the Ectophontis basement and fill them yourself, but this method is far slower and generally not worth the effort. Buying slime from traders costs only 2 GP each, making it much more efficient.

2. Bone Meal

Bone meal is made by grinding bones using pots and any bones:

· Bones: Any type of bone works for Ecto tokens. You’ll always receive five tokens per worship, but the type of bone affects the Prayer XP you gain. Offering bones multiplies the normal XP by four. For example, burying a Big Bone gives 15 XP, but offering it yields 60 XP.

  · Main Game Players: Buy bones on the Grand Exchange (GE).

  · Ironman Accounts: Collect bones from the Wilderness Boneyard and bank at Pharaoh’s Enclave.

  · Hardcore Ironman: Use Big Bones from the Colossal Worm Agility Course and bank them at the Hunter Guild to avoid dangerous areas.

· Pots: You’ll need 9 reusable pots for this method. Purchase them on the GE or at general stores around Gielinor.

Step-by-Step Guide to Farming Ecto Tokens

1. Prepare Your Inventory:

  · 9 bones of your choice

  · 9 pots

  · 9 buckets of slime

  · Ghostspeak Amulet or Morytania Legs to collect tokens from disciples

2. Travel to the Ectophontis:

  · Use the Ecto Teleport spell or charter ships to Port Phasmatys.

3. Grind Bones into Bone Meal:

  · Go upstairs to the Bone Grinder and use your bones on the loader. The system cycles automatically until all nine pots of bone meal are ready. You can speed up the process by left-clicking each stage, but it doesn’t make a huge difference in time.

4. Worship the Altar:

  · Return to the main floor and offer your bone meal and slime at the altar. This converts them into Prayer XP and prepares you for token collection.

5. Collect Ecto Tokens:

  · Speak to the disciples to claim your tokens. You can stack up to 1,000 tokens before needing to collect them again.

6. Repeat the Process:

  · Bank and restock slime and bones as needed. Some players prefer smaller batches (e.g., 13 bones/pots), but I find larger batches (up to 999) more efficient.

Tips for Efficient Farming

· Consider stockpiling tokens for permanent travel to Dragon Tooth Island, especially if you frequently do clue scrolls.

· Charge your Bone Crusher Necklace in bulk to save time later.

· World hopping at slime traders can drastically speed up collection.

· Keep reusable pots in your bank so you don’t have to buy new ones each session.

Conclusion

While Ecto tokens may seem minor in OSRS, they’re essential for certain OSRS items, quests, and tools like the Bone Crusher. By following this guide, you can farm tokens efficiently, save time on repeat trips, and maximize your Prayer XP gains. Personally, I prefer to stockpile a few thousand tokens to avoid returning too often, especially when doing clue scrolls or managing my bone crusher charges.
