Ghostly Fishing: A Relaxing Training Method in RuneScape
Sep-22-2023 PSTWelcome to RuneScape's newest fishing training method: Ghostly Fishing. In this guide, we will explore the ins and outs of this method to determine its effectiveness and whether it suits your gameplay style. So grab your cup of tea, sit back, relax, and let's dive in!
Ghostly Souls, a new type of fish, can be caught after completing the necromancy tutorial. The fishing spot for these ethereal creatures is located on the southern side of the city of Um, next to Celine's house. To catch Ghostly Souls, you'll need a fishing rod and fishing bait, unless you possess the Tier 1 prawn perks in your Player-Owned House aquarium, in which case bait is not required.
The Ghostly Soul fishing spot is stationary, making it the most AFK (away from keyboard) fishing spot in the game. It offers a level of relaxation similar to fishing wobbegongs on the Ark, without the need to constantly move between islands. To fully enjoy the AFK nature of this method, it is recommended to have Porter charges, which can be stored in items like the "Greater of the Elves." However, if you don't own this item, an alternative is to acquire a full shark outfit. This outfit can be crafted using the Invention skill or obtained through specific events. By setting your shark outfit to the consume option, you can automatically eat the fish as you catch them, eliminating the need for Porters or banking.
Now, let's talk about the experience gained from Ghostly Fishing. With the Fury Shark outfit, Master Call of the Sea aura, Fishing Skill Cape, and Crystal Fishing Rod, the base XP rate is around 98,000 fishing XP per hour. If you include decorated fishing urns and enhancers, the rate can exceed 120,000 fishing XP per hour. While this may not be the most efficient fishing training method, it offers exceptional AFK capabilities. For faster XP rates, methods such as Wobbegongs or Waterfall Fishing will be more suitable, although they require more attention.
If you are looking to level up your fishing skill around the unlock level of 66, Ghostly Fishing can still be a viable option. In a test conducted with an alt account at level 65 fishing, using no boosts other than a super fishing potion to access Ghostly Souls, around 57,000 XP per hour was gained. This rate is comparable to fishing at Metaforce, without the moving spots, and faster than Magnetic Minnows. It's worth noting that this account did not have access to the boost unlocked at 177,000 Ports District reputation.
In general, if you're following a leveling guide, it is recommended to train at Metaforce from levels 52 to 70 fishing. However, if you prefer a more relaxed and AFK-oriented approach, Ghostly Souls can be an alternative to Metaforce, especially if you plan to be away from your screen for more extended periods. Just remember to use signs of the porter if you have them, or manually drop the fish from your inventory when it's full.
While Ghostly Fishing may not be the best choice for high-level training, it can be a rewarding method for mid-level fishing training. Additionally, keep an eye out for future updates that may introduce more ghostly fish, especially with a necromancy-related theme. Who knows, maybe deep-sea ghost fishing will become a reality in the city of Um!
