Mixology: An OSRS Herblore Mini-Game Guide

Jan-15-2025 PST

Bringing you a guide to mastering Mixology, the exciting Herblore mini-game introduced in Old School RuneScape's Varlamore Part Two update. Whether you’re a budding Herblore enthusiast or a seasoned veteran, this guide will walk you through the requirements, mechanics, and rewards of Mixology. Let’s dive in!

Requirements and Preparation

To participate in Mixology, you need a minimum Herblore level of 60. At this level, you can mix three out of the ten available potions. For the highest-level potion, you’ll need a Herblore level of 81. Don’t worry if you’re not maxed out; you can still engage in the mini-game and earn rewards.

Materials Needed

Mixology requires herbs or unfinished potions to create three types of paste:

  • MOX Paste (lowest cost)

  • AA Paste (moderate cost)

  • LI Paste (highest cost)

Each paste corresponds to specific potions you’ll mix during the game. You can refine clean herbs or unfinished potions into a paste using the on-site refiner, which we’ll cover shortly.

How to Get There

Mixology is located in Alderin, a small island southwest of the Varlamore region. Here are the best travel options:

  1. Boat from Sunset Coast – Costs 20 osrs gold and takes you directly to the island.

  2. Fairy Ring Code: CKQ – Brings you near Alderin.

  3. Player-Owned House Portal – Move your house to Alderin and teleport there.

Once on Alderin, head to the designated building and go downstairs to find the Mixology area. You’ll be greeted by an NPC who checks your Herblore level (only the first time) and Supervisor Lo, who provides a rundown of the mini-game mechanics.

Playing Mixology

Refining Herbs

The first step is creating paste from herbs or unfinished potions:

• Load your inventory with the materials.

• Click on the refiner to convert them into paste.

   • Tip: Spam-click the refiner to speed up the process.

• Deposit paste into the hopper (up to 3,000 of each type) or keep extra paste in your inventory.

Mixing Potions

To begin mixing potions:

1. Observe the top-left corner of your screen for three potion orders. Each potion requires a specific combination of paste types, indicated by letters:

   • Example:

      • Mega Light Liquid (MLL) = 1 MOX, 2 LI.

      • Mystic Mana Amalgamation (MMA) = 2 MOX, 1 AA.

2. Use the levers corresponding to each paste type to load the correct combination. Don’t worry about the order—the potion will mix correctly as long as you use the right quantities.

3. After setting the combination, grab the unfinished potion from the central mixing vessel.

Processing Potions

Next, process the unfinished potions at the appropriate machines:

  • Cauldron Table – For potions with a cauldron symbol.

  • Flask Table – For potions with a flask symbol.

  • V Table – For potions with a V symbol.

Speeding Up the Process

  • Cauldron Table: Spam-click to speed up.

  • Flask Table: Click precisely on the fifth tick or, if you miss, on the seventh tick after starting.

  • V Table: Click during the fireworks animation to boost progress.

Higher Herblore levels reduce the processing time automatically.

Turning In Potions

Once processed, deliver potions to the conveyor belt at the northern end:

  • Earn Herblore XP and Resin Points (reward currency).

  • Each potion order refreshes after turning in potions, whether correct or incorrect.

  • Incorrect potions yield reduced rewards.

Rewards and Resin Points

There are three types of resin points, each tied to the corresponding paste:

  • MOX Resin

  • AA Resin

  • LI Resin

To purchase every item in the rewards shop, you’ll need:

  • 70,500 LI Resin

  • 61,000 MOX Resin

  • 52,550 AA Resin

Bonus Points with Digweed

Every 5–10 minutes, a Digweed herb spawns in one of the four corners of the room. Use it on a finished potion to double the resin points earned for that potion. Digweed works particularly well with:

  • Lip Lac Liquor for LI Resin.

  • Mixlot Potion, which gives 20 points of each resin type.

XP Rates and Examples

Mixology offers competitive Herblore XP rates, making it an excellent training method. While rates vary based on level and efficiency, you can expect substantial gains with consistent gameplay.

Example Run

1. Potions:

  • Mystic Mana Amalgam (MMA): 2 MOX, 1 AA.

  • Lip Lac Liquor (LLL): 3 LI.

  • Mixlot Potion (MAL): 1 MOX, 1 AA, 1 LI.

2. Process:

  • Use the flask table for MMA.

  • Spam-click the cauldron table for LLL.

  • Watch for the fireworks animation at the V table for MAL.

3. Turn In: Deliver the potions to the conveyor belt and collect your rewards.

Final Tips

  • Focus on the orders that yield the resin type you need most.

  • Use area sounds to help count ticks for precise clicking.

  • Prioritize using Digweed strategically to maximize point gain.

  • Don’t stress over mistakes; the mini-game is forgiving and allows for quick corrections.

Mastering Mixology is a rewarding way to train Herblore while earning unique rewards. Whether you’re here for the XP, the challenge, or the shop rewards, this mini-game adds a fun and dynamic layer to OSRS gameplay.
