New Training Methods in Old School RS
May-17-2024 PSTOne thing I've noticed this year is that there's been a surge of new training methods added to Old School RS (OSRS), along with reworks of existing ones. Some of these methods are incredibly efficient and haven't even made it to the official wiki yet. Today, I want to test out some of these new training methods and showcase just how effective they can be. Let's dive into a few examples, starting with a new Slayer task, followed by mining, thieving, combat, and agility training methods.
Fever Spiders: An Unexpected Gem in Slayer Training
One of the lesser-known updates comes from Project Rebalance, which introduced minimal loot tables to certain monsters. Fever Spiders, in particular, have seen a significant change. They now drop items like Quarm at a 1 in 6 rate, which is quite profitable given their low hitpoints.
The Fever Spider only requires level 42 Slayer and completion of the "Rum Deal" quest, making it accessible for mid-level players. When tackling these spiders, you need to wear Slayer gloves to avoid being diseased. Despite sacrificing a few maximum hits for the gloves, the profit margins are impressive.
By using a melee setup and bringing along a cannon and herb pouch, I found that the average drops from Fever Spiders, such as Water Battlestaffs (worth nearly 10k in alchemy), quickly added up. Within an hour, I amassed about 1.6 million GP, excluding the cost of supplies, leading to a net profit of nearly 1.9 million GP per hour. This rate is phenomenal for such a low-level Slayer monster, making Fever Spiders a standout training and OSRS money making method for mid-level accounts.
Zalcano: Turning Mining into a Profitable Skill
Another fantastic update from the Project Rebalance affects Zalcano, a boss that now offers viable mining training alongside solid profit potential. Players can choose between a resource-focused approach or an experience-focused one. Opting for the latter, I found that even without loot, the Crystal Shards you receive are highly valuable.
Participating in a mass world, where Zalcano is quickly defeated, allows you to earn up to 80 Crystal Shards per hour. Even though this method prioritizes experience over loot, the shards alone can yield around 1 million GP per hour. This profitability, combined with competitive mining experience rates (approximately 50k XP per hour), makes Zalcano an excellent choice for players seeking both efficient training and financial gain.
To convert the Crystal Shards to GP, players often create Divine potions. This process, particularly with Divine super combat potions, requires a high Herblore level (97), but the returns are substantial. With 200 Divine super combats crafted and sold, the profit easily reaches 1 million GP, highlighting the economic and experiential benefits of this method.
Thieving from Gem Stalls: A Hidden Treasure
Thieving has also received notable adjustments, particularly with the experience rates from stalls. Among these, the gem stall stands out due to its experience increase from 160 XP to 248 XP per steal and a reduced respawn timer. This enhancement, combined with the introduction of Varlamore, offers a compelling new thieving method.
Starting at level 75 thieving, players can steal from the gem stalls in the Civitas Ille marketplace. By alternating between two stalls and hopping worlds to avoid guards, it’s possible to achieve around 200k thieving XP per hour. Additionally, this method yields approximately 500 gems per hour, which translates to over 100k GP for main accounts and a significant stockpile for Ironman accounts.
This method is straightforward, requires minimal clicking, and provides a substantial amount of gems, making it an attractive option for players looking to boost their thieving experience efficiently.
Sulfur Naga: Harnessing New Combat Mechanics
With the release of Varlamore, several mid-level combat training methods have emerged, one of which leverages the unique mechanics of the Sulfur Naga. These creatures have a negative flat armor stat, increasing your max hit by 4 each time you strike, making weapons that hit multiple times, like the dual Meiyerditch maul, incredibly effective.
To take advantage of this method, you need 70 attack, 75 strength, and access to the Neothelid Dungeon, which requires completion or progression in the "Moon Apparatus" quest. Equipped with your best strength-boosting gear, including the dual Meiyerditch maul, you can achieve remarkable combat experience rates.
By utilizing the unique Moonlight potions crafted within the dungeon, which combine prayer and combat boosts, you can sustain long training sessions. These potions are powerful and easy to make, providing an infinite supply of prayer points. With this setup, players can achieve up to 150k combat XP per hour at maximum levels, and even at lower levels, the rates remain highly competitive.
Barrows Shortcut: The Most AFK Agility Training
The Project Rebalance introduced several new agility shortcuts, one of which is the Barrows shortcut. While not providing the best XP rates, it offers an unparalleled level of AFK-ability. By positioning your camera correctly, you can continuously click without moving your mouse, achieving around 25k agility XP per hour with minimal effort.
This method requires level 72 agility and is far from the most efficient in terms of XP rates. However, for players seeking a completely brainless training option, this shortcut is ideal.
Wealthy Citizens: A Unique Thieving Method
Lastly, thieving from wealthy citizens in Varlamore provides a unique training method. Normally, this involves stealing keys and looting houses, but by focusing solely on the pickpocketing aspect, you can capitalize on the distraction mechanic introduced by urchins. This allows for automatic pickpocketing without the risk of failing.
This method is beneficial because the distraction mechanic levels the playing field, giving the same experience rates regardless of thieving level. Even with only a third of the time spent pickpocketing, you can achieve around 70k thieving XP per hour. Additionally, by high alching items during downtime, you can also earn up to 60k magic XP per hour, making this a highly efficient dual-skill training method.
The introduction of these new and reworked training methods in Old School RuneScape has significantly diversified the ways players can train their skills while also making substantial profits. From low-level Slayer tasks like Fever Spiders to high-efficiency mining and thieving methods at Zalcano and Varlamore, there’s something for everyone. These methods not only provide efficient experience gains but also offer unique mechanics and substantial financial rewards, making them worth exploring for players of all levels. Happy training!
