Old School RS: Bot Hunting, Spellbook Swapping, and Wilderness Adventures
Jun-18-2024 PSTShare some thrilling escapades from recent journeys in Old School RS (OSRS). I've been experimenting with some unique combat strategies, including spellbook swapping and bot hunting in the wilderness. These activities have not only tested my skills but also led to some exciting discoveries and significant loot. Let's dive into the details!
Spellbook Swapping Adventures
Recently, I experimented with spellbook swapping, starting with the Ancient spellbook and switching to the Lunar spellbook to cast Vengeance. This technique, while promising, didn’t always work out as planned. In one particular situation, I attempted to spec right after swapping but failed to land a successful hit. Despite this, the potential of this method intrigued me, and I continued to test it in various scenarios.
Bot Hunting in BH Worlds
In addition to my spellbook experiments, I spent considerable time in the Bounty Hunter (BH) worlds, exploring new strategies and hunting down bots. Today, I'll share my experiences and results from a dedicated 10-hour bot-hunting session across various locations in RuneScape, using both my main account and my 20 defense pure, Swerve's House.
Targeting Bots: Locations and Strategies
Zombie Pirates and Elder Chaos Druids
I started my bot-hunting journey at the Zombie Pirates and Elder Chaos Druids. Due to a recent update, this area has become infested with bots. The first bot I encountered used a basic range setup and was always praying magic, making it easy to hit high with range or melee. Using a Dragon Dagger (DDS) for special attacks proved sufficient since the bot was low combat level.
The Elder Chaos Druids area provided ample opportunities to target bots preoccupied with other threats, allowing for effective ambushes. However, some bots exhibited advanced prayer-switching and survival tactics, making them harder to kill. Bringing a teammate or small clan could significantly improve success rates in these encounters.
Bot Variants and Combat Tactics
Basic Bots
These bots typically use basic setups and are relatively easy to kill. They often have predictable behaviors and limited combat capabilities, making them prime targets for solo hunters.
Cudel Bots
These bots are more advanced, using effective prayer-switching and food management to survive longer. They are challenging to kill solo, so teaming up with others can increase your chances of success.
Magic Bots
At one point, I encountered a bot farm using the Ancient Staff and Black Dragonhide armor. These bots were particularly tricky, utilizing advanced tactics like perfect prayer switching, effective eating, and strategic movement to evade attacks. Despite these challenges, persistent efforts can yield valuable loot.
Wilderness Agility Arena
Exploring the Wilderness Agility Arena revealed lower-level bots attempting to earn OSRS GP. However, the risk of being attacked by other players or creatures in the area made this a less profitable venture. The bots here rarely carried significant loot, with most keys being worth less than 20k.
The Spindle and Other Wilderness Locations
Spindle Bots
The Spindle is another popular bot-hunting spot. Bots here vary in setups, from wearing Guthan's armor to Monk Robes and Dragonhide. These bots can have thousands of kills, indicating high profitability for their owners. By targeting these bots, we not only disrupt their operations but also earn substantial loot, with keys often worth several hundred thousand GP.
RTO Bots
In the RTO (Revenant Caves) area, I encountered bots wearing various armor types, including Bloodbark, Enchanted, and Mystic. The combat level range for these bots is typically between 79 and 93, making them suitable targets for my 20 defense pure. Although some higher-level bots posed a challenge, persistent efforts and strategic attacks led to significant profits.
Profit and Risks
Hourly Profits
The 10-hour bot-hunting session resulted in impressive profits. For example, a single hour at the Spindle yielded approximately 8.4 million GP, while subsequent hours maintained a steady rate of around 7-8 million GP. These earnings make bot hunting one of the most lucrative activities in the game, provided you can consistently defeat the bots and manage the risks involved.
Risks and Losses
Despite the potential for high profits, bot hunting in the wilderness carries significant risks. Encountering other players, especially experienced PKers, can lead to substantial losses. For instance, a miscalculated attack on a seemingly solo player resulted in a 40 million GP loss for me. To mitigate such risks, always be aware of your surroundings, use plugins to track multi-combat areas, and avoid unnecessary confrontations with non-bot players.
Conclusion
Bot hunting in Old School RuneScape offers a thrilling and profitable adventure for those willing to navigate the dangers of the wilderness. By targeting specific bot locations, utilizing effective combat strategies, and staying vigilant, players can earn significant rewards while contributing to a healthier game environment. Whether you're experimenting with spellbook swapping or hunting down elusive bots, the key to success lies in persistence, adaptability, and a keen understanding of the game's mechanics. Happy hunting, and may your adventures in Gielinor be ever prosperous!
