OSRS 1–99 Hunter Guide 2026

Mar-28-2026 PST

Welcome to my complete guide on training Hunter from level 1 to 99 in Old School RuneScape (OSRS). In this guide, I’ll cover everything you need to know—from starting quests to advanced training methods—so you can maximize your experience gains while exploring the game.

Starting Your Hunter Journey

The fastest way to kickstart your Hunter experience is by completing the Varrock Museum quiz. While technically not a quest, it functions very similarly. Using the Quest Helper plugin, you can finish the quiz in about three minutes, instantly jumping from Hunter level 1 to 9.

Other Hunter quests that require level 12 or higher exist, but the XP rewards are minimal, so starting with the Varrock Museum is the most efficient approach.

Birdhouse Runs: Early to Mid-Level XP

Once you have a few levels, birdhouse runs on Fossil Island are a fantastic way to passively train Hunter while gaining crafting experience.

Requirements:

· Quests: Bone Voyage (to access Fossil Island)

· Skills: Hunter and Crafting

· Items: Clockwork, logs, hammer, chisel, seeds (any type), and a Digsite Pendant for teleportation

How It Works:

· Build four birdhouses at the designated hotspots.

· Fill each birdhouse with 10 seeds to start trapping birds.

· Each run takes 2–3 minutes, while the birdhouses collect XP over 50 minutes.

· After looting, the clockwork is returned, so you only need the original four to maintain your runs.

Higher-tier birdhouses grant more XP, better chances for bird nests, and extra profit. Regular birdhouse runs can help skip early and mid-level Hunter training while also being a valuable way for Ironman accounts to stockpile bird nests.

Hunter Rumors: Slayer-Like Tasks for Hunter

At level 46 Hunter, you can start completing Hunter Rumors, which function like Slayer tasks but for Hunter.

How They Work:

· Speak to a Hunter master in the basement of the Hunter’s Guild.

· Receive a contract to catch specific creatures and return rare loot for rewards.

· Completing a rumor grants bonus Hunter XP, unique items, and unlocks useful tools like the Quitzel Whistle, which can teleport you to the Hunter’s Guild.

· Rewards also include the Guild Hunter Outfit, increasing catch rates and rare item chances, and the Huntsman’s Kit, which saves bank space.

Hunter Rumors keep gameplay dynamic, exposing you to multiple Hunter methods across the map rather than grinding a single activity.

Recommended Training Methods (1–99)

Here’s a breakdown of my preferred methods from low to high levels:

Levels 1–9

· Varrock Museum quiz for a quick head start.

Levels 9–25: Feldip Weasels

· Located in the Feldip Hills Hunter area.

· Use noose wands for tracking.

· Wear a Ring of Pursuit to reveal the full path, saving time.

· 15 rings are sufficient for this level range.

Levels 25–39: Sapphire Glacials

· Located in the Relica Hunter area, southeast of Auburn Valley.

· Use butterfly nets and butterfly jars.

· Optional combo with Ceruan Twitches.

· Alternative: Snowy Knights for low-level OSRS gold and XP.

Levels 39–49: Embertailed Jerboas

· Found in Aven Savannah (Varamore).

· Requires box traps and partial completion of Eagle’s Peak quest.

· XP per hour is solid; money made is minimal.

· At level 40, you can set three traps at a time.

Levels 49–77: Razorback Kevitz

· Tracking method in Episcurus Hunter area, accessible via AKQ fairy ring.

· Offers high XP per hour; over 1 million XP for this segment.

· Alternative for variation: Orange and Red Salamanders north of Castle Wars.

Levels 77–90: Rainbow Crabs

· Located on the Crown Jewel Island, requires 64 Sailing.

· Build five traps using planks, nails, a hammer, a saw, and bait with fine fish offcuts.

· Low click intensity, good XP, and minor GP from crafting Rainbow Crab Paste for Armadill Bruise.

Levels 90–99: Herbivores

· Located on Fossil Island, requires the Bone Voyage quest.

· More engaging than Rainbow Crabs, it involves tracking.

· Requires Hunter plugin or manual tracking for path guidance.

Alternative Methods

For players who want variety or hybrid training, try these methods:

Drift Net Fishing

· Low-level Fishing + Hunter XP.

· Located in the underwater section of Fossil Island (Bone Voyage required).

· Requires diving apparatus, fishbowl helm, and flippers.

· Profit and XP from catching fish with drift nets.

Aerial Fishing

· Slower than a drift net, grants the Angler’s Outfit, suitable for hybrid training.

Maniacal Monkeys

· Available at level 60 after Monkey Madness 2.

· Catch monkeys in Krux Dungeons using deadfall traps and bananas.

· Moderate click intensity; some multitasking possible.

Chinchompas

· Red Chinchompas at level 63 (Chin Chompa Island, 42 Sailing required).

· Black Chinchompas at level 73 in the Wilderness; higher GP but risk of PKers.

Moonlight Moths and Antelopes

· Level 75+ in the Hunter Guild basement.

· Use butterfly jars and nets for moths.

· Pitfall traps, teasing sticks, and crafting for antelopes.

· Optional: transform antlers into Moonlight Bolts for profit and inventory management.

Final Tips

Mix and match methods to prevent burnout and keep gameplay engaging. Always bring teleportation options like the Quitzel Whistle or the Amulet of Glory. Keep a small amount of inventory space free for secondary products like meat, nests, and antlers. Consider money-making potential alongside XP to make your training more rewarding.

By combining these methods, you can efficiently train Hunter from 1 to 99 while learning more about the OSRS map, completing quests, and making some GP along the way.

This guide covers both efficient XP methods and alternatives to keep training dynamic. Whether you stick to birdhouse runs or chase Hunter Rumors, there’s a path for every type of player.
