OSRS: 1 to 99 Fletching Guide 2025

Jul-29-2025 PST

Welcome to my comprehensive 1 to 99 Fletching guide for OSRS! Fletching is one of the most popular and commonly achieved 99 skills in the game, and for good reason. Not only is it one of the fastest skills to train to max level, but it also offers a variety of training methods that can be profitable or at least break-even — a rare combination among OSRS skills.

In this guide, I will walk you through three different routes to 99 Fletching:

· A balanced, profitable method that doesn't break the bank

· The absolute fastest way to get 99, but at a steep cost

· A slower, low-intensity, yet profitable method is ideal for more casual players

Whether you are a new player looking to dip your toes into Fletching or a veteran aiming for efficiency and profit, this guide will help you plan your journey.

Why Train Fletching?

Before diving into the training routes, let's explore why you might want to train Fletching in the first place.

Profitability

Fletching is well-known for being a profitable skill to train, especially when you hit mid to higher levels. With methods like making bolts, arrows, and bows, you can often make a good amount of OSRS gold while gaining experience. This dual benefit of profit and experience is a major reason many players chase 99 Fletching.

Skillcape and Achievements

The Fletching skillcape, while not the most powerful or useful cape in OSRS, is a prestigious item that showcases your dedication. Besides, reaching 99 Fletching opens up some useful items and content.

Quests and Diaries

Fletching is also a requirement for some quests and achievement diaries:

· The Sins of the Father quest requires 60 Fletching.

· The Desert Elite Diary requires a whopping 95 Fletching to craft Dragon darts — a key item for completing elite diary tasks and earning some of the best rewards in the game.

If you're aiming to complete all content, having high Fletching is essential.

Early Fletching: Getting Started from Level 1

At low levels, Fletching is extremely quick to train. While early quest experience isn't essential, a couple of quests help boost your levels and unlock important content.

Useful Quests for Early Fletching

· Temple of Ikov: You can complete this at level 1 Fletching and receive about 8,000 experience, pushing you to level 25 instantly. This jumpstart can save you some time at the start.

· Tourist Trap: This quest unlocks the ability to make darts, which are one of the fastest Fletching training methods available, so completing it early is highly recommended.

Boosting with Dragonfruit Pies

With the addition of the Farming Guild and Dragonfruit pies, you can boost your Fletching level by 4 temporarily. This is a fantastic way to reach the required levels for certain training methods faster without waiting to level up naturally.

The Best Starting Method: Crafting Headless Arrows (Levels 1-30)

From level 1 to 30, crafting headless arrows is widely regarded as the best way to train. It's faster and more profitable than making arrow shafts or low-level bows.

· You will need approximately 13,300 headless arrows to reach level 30.

· This can be done in about 20 minutes.

· Expect to make around 45k experience per hour while profiting some GP.

Heads up: Fletching is a viable skill, meaning you buy almost all materials from the Grand Exchange. Be mindful of buying limits (7,000-15,000 items per 4 hours for some materials), which can slow your progress if you don't plan.

Three Routes to 99 Fletching

Now that you have 30 Fletching, here are the three routes you can take to reach 99:

1. Balanced and Profitable Route (30 to 99 Fletching)

This is my preferred method — a solid mix of decent speed, low risk, and profitability.

Levels 30-65: Steel Arrows

· Make steel arrows by buying headless arrows and steel arrow tips.

· Expect to make around 220k experience per hour.

· This phase will take roughly 2 hours and cost about 1 million GP.

· Remember the buying limits; this phase might take a couple of days to stockpile supplies.

Levels 65-71: Ruby or Diamond Tipped Bolts

· Begin tipping ruby or diamond bolts at 65 Fletching.

· Choose whichever is more profitable at the time.

· This phase takes around 1.5 hours and will net you roughly 800k to 1 million GP profit.

Levels 71-84: Dragonstone Bolts

· At 71, unlock Dragonstone bolts.

· These bolts provide more experience per hour (up to 240k XP/hr) and can be quite profitable.

· This will require crafting around 260,000 bolts over about 9 hours.

· Expect to make 5 to 10 million GP profit.

Levels 84-99: Dragon Bolts

· The fastest method in this route: crafting dragon bolts.

· Unlike arrows or lower-level bolts, dragon bolts have no crafting menu delay — you're only limited by your clicking speed.

· You can gain between 1 million and 1.5 million experience per hour.

· Expect to craft about 840,000 dragon bolts from 84 to 99.

· Time spent clicking is about 10 hours, but buying limits mean this will stretch out longer in real time.

· This step can net anywhere from a 10 million loss to a 10 million profit, depending on market prices.

Total experience time: ~23 hours

Total profit: Break-even or up to 10 million GP profit, depending on market and patience.

2. The Absolute Fastest Route: Dart Crafting (37 to 99 Fletching)

If you want the fastest 99 possible and have deep pockets, darts are the way to go.

· Darts give more experience per action than bolts or arrows.

· This method requires Tourist Trap completion to unlock darts.

· Start with steel darts at level 37 (quick to craft, about 600k XP/hr).

· Then move on to mithril darts (52-67), adamant darts (67-90), amethyst darts (90-95), and finally dragon darts (95-99).

Experience and Cost Breakdown

· Steel darts: 37-52, about 10 minutes, cheap.

· Mithril darts: 52-67, ~30 minutes, costing around 3 million GP.

· Adamant darts: 67-90, about 4 hours, costing around 50 million GP.

· Amethyst darts: 90-95, about 2 hours, 40 million GP.

· Dragon darts: 95-99, about 2 hours, 50 million GP.

Total time: ~10 hours

Total cost: ~150 million GP

This is the quickest possible method, but by far the most expensive. I achieved 99 Fletching this way, but the cost wasn't worth it to me.

Crafting Tips

· There is no delay crafting darts, but you must manually click to craft each set.

· Use the double-click method on PC to reduce wrist fatigue and speed up crafting.

· Alternatively, use a mobile device or tablet to tap back and forth with two fingers, which can be faster and easier to maintain.

3. The Low-Intensity, Profitable Route: Bow Stringing (30 to 99 Fletching)

If you prefer a slower, more laid-back way of training Fletching that still profits, stringing bows is a great option.

· Bow stringing is less click-intensive and allows AFK play.

· Buying limits are less problematic since you don't need to stockpile vast amounts of tiny Old School Runescape items.

· Profits can be substantial by the time you reach 99.

Levels 30-65: Steel Arrows (Optional)

I still recommend steel arrows to quickly hit 65, as this phase is cheap and fast.

Levels 65-70: Ushortbows Stringing

· String about 4,200 ushortbows.

· Takes about 1.5 hours.

· Profits roughly 300k GP.

Levels 70-85: Ulongbows Stringing

· String 16,800 ulongbows.

· Takes about 14 hours.

· Profits are approximately 3 million GP.

Levels 85-99: Magic Longbows Stringing

· The final stretch is stringing magic longbows.

· This takes about 45 hours of gameplay.

· Experience rates of 200-220k per hour.

· Profits can reach 13-15 million GP.

Total time: ~63 hours

Total profit: ~15 million GP

This route is ideal if you want to train Fletching casually while making a consistent profit.

Additional Tips and Alternatives

· Dragon arrows can be a quick alternative to darts and bolts and require less clicking.

· You can tip dragon bolts after level 84 as a less click-intensive alternative to crafting full dragon bolts.

· Always keep an eye on Grand Exchange prices and buying limits to maximize profit and avoid downtime.

· Use Dragonfruit pies for temporary Fletching boosts when close to level requirements.

Final Thoughts

Fletching is a versatile skill with options for every type of player, whether you want to maximize speed, profit, or AFK time. Planning is crucial due to buying limits on materials, and market fluctuations can impact profits. With the strategies outlined here, you can tailor your path to 99 Fletching to fit your style and goals.
