OSRS Ankou Slayer Guide

Apr-02-2026 PST

Welcome to my comprehensive guide on Ankou! If you’re looking to optimize your Slayer tasks, this guide will walk you through everything from monster mechanics to gear setups and location strategies.

Ankou Overview

Ankou are straightforward Slayer monsters with very simple mechanics:

· Requirements: None. Anyone can fight them.

· Attack Style: Melee only.

· Weakness: Weak to the Salv Amulet.

There are four Salvlet variants, each with unique requirements and multipliers. I’ve created a chart breaking down each amulet’s requirements, combat multipliers, and important notes on how they function.

Pro Tip: The Salv Amulet does not stack with the Slayer Helmet. If you have to pick one, it’s generally better to wear the Salv Amulet (EI) over the Imbued Slayer Helmet.

The Salv Amulet is particularly popular in the Wilderness when fighting undead monsters with melee setups, especially since an infinite supply of Salvulet Ease is obtainable after completing some simple quests.

Combat Tips

Ankou only uses melee, so your defensive options are straightforward:

· Protect Melee: Completely negates their damage.

· High Crush Defense: Reduces their accuracy, best used in single-combat zones.

Before gearing up, decide on your location and prepare accordingly. If your area allows, bring a Dwarf Multicannon and adjust your RuneLite settings for efficiency.

Gear Setups

Here’s a breakdown of recommended gear for Magic, Ranged, Melee, and Wilderness setups at different price points. All stats come from the NOBS OSRS Calculator, a fantastic tool for testing DPS, task times, and resource estimates in real-time.

Magic Setups

Magic is highly effective if you’re bursting into the Catacombs.

1. Bursting setups (two options, different budgets):

  · Focus on a high-damage burst weapon.

  · Fill the rest with magic damage gear.

2. Non-burst setups (single-combat zones):

  · Use the best weapon possible.

  · Equip magic damage gear + prayer gear for survivability.

Magic Gear Priority:

1. Weapon

2. Magic damage gear

3. Prayer gear

Ranged Setups

Ranged works well for both single-combat and multi-combat areas:

· High DPS option: Use a Ventor Bow in the Catacombs.

· Budget-friendly options: Blowpipe or Rune Knives work effectively in single-combat zones.

Ranged Gear Priority:

1. Weapon

2. Ranged strength gear

3. Prayer gear

Melee Setups

Melee offers strong DPS, especially with hybrid or high-strength setups:

· High DPS: Scythe in the Catacombs.

· Single-combat zones: Use your preferred weapon.

· Hybrid setups: Combine strength and prayer with Protect Melee.

· Crush defense setups: Focus on defensive stats, bringing food to manage damage.

Weapons like Guthan’s Spear or Saradomin Godsword can dramatically reduce food costs.

Melee Gear Priority:

1. Weapon

2. Strength gear

3. Prayer gear

Wilderness Setups

Fighting in the Wilderness requires caution due to PKers:

· Recommended setups: Magic burst, Ranged, and Melee.

· Strategy: Prioritize three valuables, then fill the rest with welfare and prayer gear.

· Risk management:

  · Limit wilderness weapons to ~1,500 ether.

  · Spells: Only a few hundred casts.

  · Arrows: Max 300

  · Knives/darts: Max 500

Gear Priority:

1. Valuables (armor & weapons)

2. Welfare/Prayer gear

Location Guides

Here’s a breakdown of Ankou locations and how to get there efficiently:

Catacombs of Kurand

· Fast Teleports: Corand Castle teleport, Xerx Talisman, Minecart to Hortal.

· Inside the Catacombs: Use the 17-Agility shortcut to reach Ankou.

· Tips: Bring stat-boosting potions, auto-retaliate, and monitor prayer points. Cannons help boost your DPS.

Stronghold of Security

· Fast Teleports: Skull Scepter, Soul Wars grouping teleport, Amulet of Glory, Drainer Manor.

· Navigation: Use portals to reach level 4, then head northeast to the Ankou room.

· Tips: Quick prayers and cannon deployment in the middle of the room work best.

Stronghold Slayer Cave

· Fast Teleports: Slayer Ring, Spirit Tree, Necklace of Passage, Gnome Glider, or Royal Seed Pod.

· Navigation: Run east to reach the Ankou room.

· Tips: Quick prayers, stat potions, and auto-retaliate are essential. Use your cannon if allowed.

Wilderness Slayer Cave

· Best Entrance: 18 Wilderness.

· Fast Teleports: Wilderness Obelisk (hard diary), Games Necklace to Corporeal Beast, Burning Amulet, Ring of Dueling, Clan Wars/LMS grouping teleport.

· Navigation: Run northwest to reach the Ankou.

· PKer Safety: Enable player indicators in RuneLite, highlight other players, and always monitor the minimap. Teleport immediately if red text appears.

Inventory & Prayer Tips

· Optional Items: Highlighted in yellow in your setups.

· Quick prayers: Set up according to your preference—mainly Protect Melee and stat-boosting prayers.

· Potions & Food: Bring enough for multiple trips; adjust based on whether you’re bursting or using cannon methods.

Final Notes

All of these setups and recommendations come directly from the NOBS OSRS Calculator, which allows you to test different gear combinations, see DPS outputs, resource estimates, and task completion times in real-time. Combine it with my custom teleport maps for every Slayer monster to save time, maximize efficiency, and earn OSRS gold.

Whether you’re grinding the Catacombs, navigating the Stronghold, or risking the Wilderness, this guide gives you everything you need to handle Ankou with confidence.
