OSRS Basilisks Slayer Guide
Apr-08-2026 PST
Introduction to Basilisks
Bassilisks are Slayer monsters that require level 40 Slayer and 20 Defense to kill. Before you can assign them as a Slayer task, you must unlock basilisks from the Slayer reward shop. They are fairly straightforward creatures: they only use melee attacks, making them relatively easy to handle with the right setup.
There are two types of basilisks in the game: the regular basilisk and the higher-level basilisk knight, which increases in difficulty. This guide focuses on the standard basilisk, but a guide for the knight is also available in the description.

Combat Strategies
There are two main strategies for killing basilisks: melee and safe spotting with magic or ranged.
Melee Strategy
· Melee is the most efficient method for this Slayer task.
· Basilisks have low accuracy but high defense, making them weak to crush attacks.
· Using a goating potion makes the task almost AFK by turning non-aggressive basilisks into aggressive ones. Auto-retaliate does most of the work, and you only need to monitor your HP.
Safe Spot Strategy
· Magic or ranged can be used to safe spot basilisks.
· Basilisks can be trapped behind walls or stagmites, preventing them from attacking.
· Magic users benefit greatly from earth spells and staves like the Twinflame Staff, which provides high DPS at mid-game levels.
At higher combat stats and upgraded gear, both melee and safe spotting yield similar DPS, but melee remains the preferred choice for AFK tasks, especially with goating potions.
Gear Recommendations
Melee Setup
· Focus on crush weapons for maximum damage.
· Wear one of the recommended shields to prevent stat drain.
· Inventory should include potions (combat or goating) and food for healing.
Ranged Setup
· Use high-tier ammunition for your bows or crossbows.
· Recommended shields are necessary to avoid stat loss.
· Potions and quick prayers are optional, but help maximize efficiency.
Magic Setup
· Use earth spells for effective damage.
· Recommended shields are essential to avoid significant stat drain.
· Spell casts per task range between 700 and 2,500, depending on your setup and spell choice.
All gear setups can be calculated and optimized using the NOBS OSRS Calculator, which allows you to test DPS, resource estimates, and task completion times in real time.
Locations
Bassilisks can be found in two main locations: the Fermenic Slayer Dungeon and German’s Prison. Both are single-combat zones, and cannon use is not allowed.
Fermenic Slayer Dungeon
· Accessible via Slayer ring, Fairy ring (AJR), Relica House teleport, or Fermentic Sea Boots.
· Bassilisks are located near the center of the dungeon.
· A level 43 Agility shortcut (or level 38 with a summer pie boost) can save travel time.
· Quick prayer and inventory setups should be tailored to your combat style.
Germany’s Prison
· Located on the Island of Stone, reachable by sailing with Haskell.
· Fast travel options include Fermentic Sea Boots teleport, Enchanted Liar, Relica House teleport, or Fairy ring (DKS).
· Basilisks on the upper level are easier to spot for ranged or magic combat.
Task Execution Tips
Using Melee
1. Enter the dungeon or prison cave and head to the basilisks.
2. Activate auto-retaliate and select crush attack style.
3. Drink potions, activate quick prayers, and start fighting.
4. Goating potions automatically draw non-aggressive basilisks toward you every 3 seconds.
5. Monitor HP only; AFK is possible for extended periods.
6. Against superior monstrous basilisks, which hit up to 11, use Protect from Melee or tank hits if your stats are high.
Safe Spotting with Magic or Ranged
1. Find the safe spot tile near walls or stagmites.
2. Turn on auto-retaliate, activate potions, and quick prayers.
3. Use Rapid attack style (ranged) or preferred earth spell (magic).
The basilisk will be stuck in place, allowing you to attack safely without taking damage.
Conclusion
Bassilisks are a manageable Slayer task for mid-level players and can be made highly AFK with the right setups. Using goating potions for melee or safe spotting with ranged/magic provides multiple ways to approach the task, while optimized gear and shields ensure minimal stat drain.
