OSRS Blood Moon Rises Rewards
Feb-22-2026 PSTWith the Winter Summit Overview polls concluded, Old School RuneScape is preparing to introduce one of its most thematically cohesive reward packages yet: The Blood Moon Rises. Set in the alien landscape of Vampyrium, this update blends boss drops, skilling integration, and ecosystem-driven loot design into a tightly controlled power expansion.
While early reception has been largely positive, the development team has taken extra care to clarify mechanical intent and address balance concerns—particularly around Ranged scaling. What follows is a comprehensive breakdown of the major rewards: the Crimson kisten, Necklace of Rupture, Seeker Arrows, Leechfin Sandwich, and the broader Vampyrium drop ecosystem.
Let’s examine what’s at stake.
The Crimson Kisten – Precision Through Crush
Originally referred to as the “Crimson Bludgeon,” the weapon has been renamed to better reflect its design inspiration: the medieval Kiścień. The new name, Crimson kisten, aligns more closely with both its visual identity and Vampyrium’s historical influences.
Design Intent
The Crimson kisten is a 2-handed crush-specialist weapon built explicitly around its Special Attack: Brutal Swing. This is not intended to supplant Dragon Claws or Voidwaker as universal spec options. Instead, it fills a niche OSRS has historically under-supported: high-scaling crush burst damage against crush-weak targets.
Updated Stats
Following player feedback regarding reliability:
· Crush accuracy increased by +23
· Now sits at +80 crush accuracy total
This preserves its identity while slightly improving consistency in its intended matchups.
Special Attack: Brutal Swing
· Cost: 50% Special Attack energy
· Mechanic: Four independent accuracy rolls in a single hit
Damage scales with each successful accuracy roll:
Successful Rolls Damage Range
1 70–110%
2 90–130%
3 110–150%
4 130–170%
Each successful roll increases both the minimum and maximum hit by 20%.
Cap Mechanic
If all four rolls succeed, the maximum hit is reduced by 1. This mirrors how Dragon Claws apply their cap calculation (2 × max hit − 1), ensuring the kisten does not outperform claws against 0-defence targets.
Practical Impact
Against bosses such as:
· Nightmare
· Vet'ion
· Araxxor
…where crush weakness is pronounced, the kisten’s multi-roll mechanic dramatically increases ceiling damage potential. This weapon is not broad-spectrum power creep. It is conditional dominance—a clear, targeted niche.
Necklace of Rupture – Ranged Slot Progression
The Necklace of Anguish has dominated the Ranged necklace slot for years. Blood Moon Rises introduces its direct upgrade: the Necklace of Rupture (formerly Necklace of Pursuit).
The naming now aligns thematically with Zenyte progression:
· Torture → Rancour
· Torment → Confliction
· Anguish → Rupture
“Rupture” signals a breaking point—emotionally charged, consistent with prior naming conventions.
Updated Requirements & Stats
Changes since the Overview:
· Hitpoints requirement increased to 90
· Ranged accuracy reduced to +20
Final stats:
· +20 Ranged Accuracy
· +8 Ranged Strength
· +3 Prayer
It becomes best-in-slot for standard Ranged combat, without introducing new mechanics or damage modifiers.
Creation Process
1. Obtain an untradeable Alpha Venator Tooth from the Maggot King.
2. Etch with 84 Crafting → creates tradeable Etched Alpha Venator Tooth.
3. Combine with Necklace of Anguish (84 Crafting required).
The additional etching step preserves Crafting relevance while avoiding unnecessary Zenyte sacrifices—a pain point seen with previous jewellery upgrades.
Balance Considerations
Concerns have centered around stacking this with:
· Twisted Bow
Combined with Seeker Arrows (detailed below), Ranged sees a notable power spike.
The developers’ philosophy is clear: power ebbs and flows between combat styles. This update strengthens Ranged in a long stagnant slot—but does not intend to invalidate other styles.
Monitoring post-release data remains part of the plan.
Seeker Arrows – Consistency Over Volatility
Seeker Arrows represent Vampyrium’s skilling-reward backbone. Rather than replacing arrow tiers, they act as an enhancement layer.
Updated Stat
· Ranged accuracy set to +20
Effects When Applied
· +20 Ranged Accuracy
· Minimum hit increased to 3
Important clarification:
· Minimum hit applies after all damage modifiers
· For the Venator Bow, each bounce receives the minimum hit of 3
This significantly improves long-fight consistency and reduces low-roll frustration.
Acquisition Loop
1. Harvest Bloodwood sap
2. Optionally multiply sap via PvM materials
3. Treat logs → Fletch into Seeker Arrow Shafts
4. Apply any arrowtips (Rune, Amethyst, Dragon compatible)
Sap can also be applied directly to existing arrows.
Notably:
· Compatible with standard arrows
· Not compatible with poison
This layered design avoids invalidating current arrow stockpiles while meaningfully increasing Ranged reliability.
Leechfin Sandwich – Melee Commitment Food
Vampyrium’s food offering is intentionally uncomfortable. The Leechfin Sandwich sits between traditional hard food and Saradomin brews, rewarding commitment rather than reactive panic eating.
Effects
Upon consumption:
· Heals 16 HP immediately
· Increases next attack delay by 2 ticks
· Sets next eat delay to 9 ticks
· Next successful melee hit heals an additional 16 HP
Conditions:
· Must land a successful melee hit within 12 seconds
· The effect does not stack
· Cannot be used as a combo food
This is deliberate. The second heal requires melee contact, positioning it as a melee-focused sustain option rather than universal utility.
It rewards planning and punishes sloppy usage.
Creation
Requires:
· Leechfin (Fishing activity)
· Bread
· Fine Fish Offcuts
Bulk preparation is supported at kitchens in Lumbridge, Hosidius, and the Cooks’ Guild.
Vampyrium Ecosystem & Drop Philosophy
Vampyrium is not simply another Gielinor biome. It operates under vampyric biological logic rather than human agriculture or trade.
Familiar Materials, Recontextualised
Creatures may drop:
· Sapphires, Emeralds, Rubies, Diamonds
· Iron, Coal, Mithril, Adamantite, Runite ores
· Mort Myre Mushrooms
· Fish offcuts
· Hard Leather
· Grapes and Wines
These preserve economic integration while fitting the scavenged, decayed ecology.
Unique Regional Drops
Examples include:
· Clotted Blood (doubles sap or Vial of Blood)
· Venator fangs and teeth (Dragon Arrow/Dart creation)
· Leechfin and Stymphike feathers
· Letvek bait
These drops fuel internal skilling loops rather than serving as flashy standalone rewards.
Dulled Equipment Mechanic
With 65 Crafting:
· Dulled weapons → Mithril/Adamant/Rune equivalents
· Dull jewellery → standard jewellery
Provides modest alch value and small Crafting XP, reinforcing thematic corrosion without disrupting economy balance.
Strategic Outlook
Blood Moon Rises does not introduce raw universal power. Instead, it:
· Introduces a niche-defining crush spec weapon
· Advances Ranged slot progression
· Increases Ranged consistency through ammunition layering
· Adds conditional melee sustain
· Establishes a coherent alien ecosystem
The most controversial component remains the combined Ranged scaling of:
· Necklace of Rupture
· Seeker Arrows
· Existing high-tier weapons
However, changes to accuracy (+20 caps) suggest controlled tapering rather than unchecked escalation.
The design philosophy is evident: targeted power, intentional niches, monitored deployment.
As Vampyrium emerges under the Blood Moon, the question for players isn’t simply whether these rewards are strong.
It’s whether they are strong in the right places.
