OSRS Boat Paint Guide: How to Complete the Collection Log

Dec-15-2025 PST

In Old School RuneScape (OSRS), boat paints are a unique collectable tied to the Sailing skill and various activities across the seas. With 11 total paints in the collection log, some are relatively easy to obtain, while others require patience and careful planning. In this guide, I’ll break down each paint, the best methods to acquire them, and tips to save time along the way.

1. Barracuda Paint

The Barracuda paint can be obtained from Marlin-ranked Barracuda trials. There are three locations, but the most efficient is Temper Tantrum, with a 1/240 drop rate. Other options include:

  · Jubbly Jive: 1/220 drop

  · Gwennne of Glide: 1/400 drop

Tips:

  · Use a rosewood skiff for maximum efficiency.

  · Each attempt takes roughly 3 minutes and 30 seconds, making this grind around 14–16 hours in total.

2. Shark Paint

The Shark paint drops from Port Tasks at a rate of 1/36.

Tips:

  · Focus on cargo tasks between nearby docks for fast collection.

  · This is one of the quicker paints to obtain, so knock it out early.

3. Inky Paint

The fastest way to get the Inky paint is from the Spined Kraken (1/25,500 drop, 125 HP), but a more profitable route involves the Vampire Kraken:

  · Drop rate: 1/500 for Inky paint

  · Bottled Storm (also collectable): 1/500

Tips:

  · Grind at Vampire Kraken to potentially get both items and make some OSRS gold along the way.

4. Angler’s Paint

Angler’s paint is a rare 1/18,000 drop obtained via deep-sea fishing, particularly when catching rarer troll fish.

Tips:

  · Expect a 20–25 hour grind depending on your fishing rate (some players reach ~800 fish/hour).

  · Collect other giant fish along the way to optimise your deep-sea fishing sessions.

5. Salver’s Paint

This is another long grind: 1/24,000 chance from Marshall Salvages in Mercenary Shipwrecks at 73 Sailing.

Tips:

  · You’ll need patience here, as salvage collection rates per hour are limited.

6–9. God Paints: Armadillion, Zamarakian, Gthixian, and Seridominus

Armadillion Paint

  · Use the Book about Lighthouses at a lighthouse.

  · Talk to Lissa to receive the paint.

  · You can repeat this process for multiple paints.

Zamarakian Paint

  · Use the Charred Key on Charred Island (south of Pest Control).

  · Retrieve the paint from an old chest after navigating the dark hole.

Gthixian Paint

  · Give a Void Orb to an Elite Void Knight to receive the paint.

  · Multiple paints can be obtained by repeating the process.

Seridominus Paint

  · Deliver a Holy Sheet to a High Priest on Entrana.

  · This paint is highly regarded for its dark blue aesthetic.

10. Merchant’s Paint

  · Requires trading all five tradable paints (Barracuda, Shark, Inky, Angller, Salver) to Trader Stan in Port Serim.

  · Costs can be steep: for example, Angller’s paint alone is ~69.7M GP.

  · Selling the Merchant’s Paint may result in a deficit (~15.6M GP in one example), but it completes the collection log.

11. Sandy Paint

  · Unlock the Crab Dance emote on Wind Tumbumber Island via Deep Fin Point.

  · Aggro a Hermit Crab and use the emote while defeating it to obtain the paint.

  · Use fairy rings or charter ships to reach the required locations efficiently.

Final Tips and Notes

Completing all 11 boat paints is a satisfying goal for any OSRS Sailing enthusiast. While some grinds are long, careful planning and the right tools make it achievable without unnecessary frustration. Happy sailing and good luck with your collection!
