OSRS Cave Slime Slayer Task Guide

Apr-25-2025 PST

Did you just get assigned cave slimes as your Slayer task in OSRS? You're in luck - this guide will walk you through everything you need to know to kill them quickly and efficiently. Cave slimes are one of the simpler Slayer tasks, but they still require some preparation. Here's what you need to know.

Cave Slime Requirements

To be assigned cave slimes, you must have at least 17 Slayer. They are commonly assigned by Turael, Spria, or Mazchna, so you'll often encounter them early in your Slayer journey.

Cave Slime Stats and Combat Info

Cave slimes are level 23 monsters. They have a max hit of 2, are not aggressive, and are weak to all forms of combat. They do not have any defensive stats, so you can bring any gear or combat style you prefer - melee, ranged, or magic all work just fine.

However, the most important thing to know is that cave slimes are poisonous. They will poison you almost immediately, and the poison starts at 3 damage and decreases over time. For this reason, bringing an anti-poison or super anti-poison potion is essential. Also, make sure to bring a decent food supply, especially if your combat level is low.

Recommended Gear and Items

Because cave slimes are weak and pose no real offensive threat outside of poison, you don't need to bring high-tier gear. Just wear the best gear you have for your preferred combat style.

Here's a quick checklist of what to bring:

• Any decent melee, ranged, or magic setup

• Anti-poison or super anti-poison potions

• Light source (bullseye lantern preferred)

• Tinderbox (if using a light source that needs relighting)

• Teleportation method (in case of emergencies or for banking)

• Food (if your defense level is low or to counter poison)

• Rope (only needed if it's your first time accessing the Lumbridge Swamp Caves)

A spiny helmet is not required if you avoid wall beasts, but if you have one, bring it just in case.

Cave Slime Loot

Let's be real - cave slimes are not profitable. They're more about finishing a quick task than making gold. Still, here's what they drop:

• Swamp tar (guaranteed)

• Iron and bronze weapons

• Iron boots (collection log item)

• Water runes and earth runes

• Small coin drops

• Unlit torch

• Gold bar

• Oil lantern frame

• 4/128 chance to hit the gem drop table

• Easy clue scrolls

The average value per kill is about 87 GP, so don't expect to make a lot of OSRS gold here. Just get in, get the task done, and move on.

Cave Slime Locations

There are two main spots to kill cave slimes in OSRS:

1. Lumbridge Swamp Caves

2. Dorgesh-Kaan South Dungeon

Let's break down how to get to each.

1. Lumbridge Swamp Caves

This is the most common location for killing cave slimes.

To get there:

• Use a Lumbridge teleport (home teleport or Lumbridge teleport tablet) and run south-west into the Lumbridge Swamp.

• Alternatively, use the fairy ring code DIS and run north-east.

• You can also use an Amulet of Glory to teleport to Draynor Village and run southeast.

If it's your first time entering the swamp caves, bring a rope to access the dark hole. Once inside, make sure you have a light source and an anti-poison potion ready.

There is a wall beast near the entrance. If you don't have a spiny helmet, simply turn on run and click past it from one tile before its spawn. You'll avoid it entirely.

Once inside, cave slimes are scattered around. Run west and then south from the entrance - you'll find multiple cave slimes grouped in this area. They don't respawn very quickly, but there are enough scattered around the dungeon to complete a small-to-medium task.

2. Dorgesh-Kaan South Dungeon

This is the second spot where you can kill cave slimes, but it's a little trickier to access.

To get here:

• Use the fairy ring code AJQ to teleport directly to the dungeon area.

• Alternatively, travel through the Kalphite Lair by using fairy ring BIQ, then run west and north to reach the entrance.

• You can also get there through the Shantay Pass by paying 5 GP, then running southwest.

If you're going through the Kalphite Lair, you'll need a rope to access the blocked tunnel. From there, run to the red door in the northeast part of the area to reach the cave slime section.

Inside, you'll find three cave slime spawns near the entrance. There are more scattered deeper in the dungeon, especially to the east. If you're a higher level and can kill them quickly, check the northwest area where they respawn more frequently.

Tips and Final Thoughts

• Cave slimes are fast and easy Slayer XP, but not profitable.

• Always bring anti-poison - they will poison you right away.

• Bring a light source that won't explode. Candles can be dangerous; bullseye lanterns are safer.

• The Lumbridge Swamp Caves are easier to access for low-level RuneScape accounts.

• The Dorgesh-Kaan South Dungeon offers more spawns if you're high-level and looking to finish the task faster.

• Pick up swamp tar if you need it for quests (like Shades of Mort'ton).

• If you get an easy clue scroll, consider completing it for some side rewards.

That's all you really need to know about cave slimes in Old School RuneScape. It's a pretty straightforward task. Just show up prepared with poison protection, a light source, and your best combat gear, and you'll have it knocked out in no time.

Thanks for reading this guide. Good luck on your Slayer journey - and don't forget to bring your anti-poison!
