OSRS Cerberus Guide For Player 2025

Aug-04-2025 PST

Today, we're diving into one of the most iconic Slayer bosses in OSRS: Cerberus. Cerberus is a hellhound boss that requires 91 Slayer to kill, making it one of the higher-level Slayer bosses out there. She's located deep inside the Taverley Dungeon, but don't worry — I'm going to break down everything you need to know to get in, fight, and kill Cerberus with minimal fuss and effort, no matter your gear or style. So, let's get right into it.

Getting to Cerberus: The Taverley Dungeon Entrance and Shortcuts

Cerberus is found in the Taverley Dungeon, an underground area accessible from Taverley. The boss is located in a special area inside the dungeon, behind a locked door.

Accessing Cerberus's lair requires:

· A dusty key, which you get from a Slayer task or buy on the Grand Exchange. This key opens the door to Cerberus's chamber if you don't have the agility shortcuts unlocked.

· Two agility shortcuts on opposite sides of the entrance wall to Cerberus's lair. These shortcuts require either 70 or 80 Agility and allow you to bypass the need for the dusty key, saving you a lot of time and hassle.

If you don't have 70 or 80 Agility, you'll need to run around the dungeon, which is slower but still doable.

Recommended Gear Setup for Cerberus

Cerberus is weak to crush attacks, so melee with crush weapons like the Bludgeon, Arclight, or Emberlight works very well. But if you want a safer, more ranged method, that also works perfectly fine.

Melee Gear (Crush Focused)

· Use a fighter torso if you have it for the best melee strength bonus.

· Bring your best crush weapon: Bludgeon, Arclight, Emberlight, or even a zombie axe.

· Protect from melee prayer is crucial.

· Spectral spirit shield is highly recommended if you can afford it, as it reduces prayer drain, but it's not necessary.

Ranged Gear

· A Blowpipe with God D'hide armor works great.

· Alternatively, use Armadyl armor with a Berserker of Arrows (BofA).

· Use the Protect from Missiles prayer.

· Bring a good ranged weapon with high DPS.

Magic Gear

Magic is generally less used here, but if you want, an Archaic spellbook with specific spells can help for utility and prayer restoration.

Inventory Setup

Your inventory should include:

· Prayer potions — Bring as many as possible, as you'll be using a lot of protection prayers.

· Super combat potions (THS) if you want faster kills.

· Plenty of food — Sharks, monkfish, or better.

· A special attack weapon of your choice (like Dragon dagger (p++) or Granite maul) if you want to burst DPS quickly.

· Optionally, an anti-fire potion can help reduce damage from lava pools that Cerberus spawns.

The Fight: How to Kill Cerberus

Cerberus attacks in a very predictable pattern, and understanding it will make the fight much easier.

The Triple Attack Cycle

At the start of the fight, Cerberus does a triple attack every 10 attacks:

1. Magic attack — Use Protect from Magic prayer.

2. Ranged attack — Use Protect from Missiles prayer.

3. Melee attack — Use Protect from Melee prayer.

You'll want to pre-pray each attack as it comes and quickly switch your prayer when you see the new animation. The triple attack can be identified by watching her animations and attack projectiles closely.

Prayer Switching Technique

· When Cerberus starts with the magic attack, activate Protect from Magic.

· Once the magic projectile is out, switch to Protect from Missiles for the ranged attack.

· Finally, switch to Protect from Melee for the melee attack.

· Repeat this cycle every 10 hits.

If you're meleeing, you'll likely be weakest to magic, so keep Protect from Magic on most of the time and only switch prayers during the triple attack sequence.

Special Attacks to Watch Out For

Cerberus has two special attacks that can mess up your fight if you're not prepared.

1. The Ghost Attack

When Cerberus says a specific phrase, three ghosts will spawn behind her. They represent the three combat styles:

· A blue magic ghost (magic attack).

· A green ranged ghost (ranged attack).

· A red melee ghost (melee attack).

Each ghost will jump at you and drain 30 prayer points or 30 hitpoints if you're not praying against them.

How to defend:

· When the ghosts spawn, look at the leftmost ghost first.

· Wait for it to move or animate, then quickly switch your prayer to match that ghost's style.

· Then switch to the middle ghost's prayer when it animates.

· Lastly, pray against the rightmost ghost.

· After dealing with all three, switch back to protecting yourself against Cerberus's attacks.

Tip: If you're using a Spectral Spirit Shield, the prayer drain from ghosts is halved (down to 15), which helps a lot.

Make sure you have at least 60 prayer points before this happens, so you don't get drained below zero and leave yourself vulnerable.

2. Lava Pool Attack

Cerberus will sometimes spawn three lava pools around the arena. These pools deal damage if you stand next to or on them — about a 3x3 area of effect damage.

How to handle this:

· Just move away quickly from the pools.

· Keep fighting without standing near them.

Anti-fire potions reduce the damage from lava pools, but they're not mandatory if you have decent food.

When Do These Specials Happen?

· Below 400 HP, Cerberus spawns ghosts every 7th attack.

· Below 200 HP, she spawns lava pools every 5th attack.

· Sometimes the two specials overlap, so be prepared for that.

Advanced Tips and Tricks

The Red X Method

This is a clever tactic to save supplies and reduce damage.

· Stand underneath Cerberus.

· Click on the gate you entered through (the door), which you cannot reach, to create a "stall."

· While stalling, Cerberus won't be able to hit you because she can't pathfind to you.

· When your weapon cooldown ends, step out and hit her.

· Then repeat the process.

This works especially well if the boss attacks faster than you can, helping you "tank" hits while timing your attacks perfectly.

Demonic Offering Spell (For Ironmen)

If you're an Ironman with 84 Magic on the Archaic spellbook, you can use the Demonic Offering spell.

· Cerberus drops demonic ashes.

· Use Demonic Offering to convert these ashes into prayer points.

· During the ghost attack, after praying against the first two ghosts, cast Demonic Offering to quickly restore prayer before praying against the last ghost.

· This saves prayer potions and helps you last longer without banking.
