OSRS Demonic Brutus Boss Guide

Mar-19-2026 PST

Old School RuneScape continues to expand its PvM landscape with creative encounters designed for both new and veteran players. The introduction of Brutus marks a significant milestone—serving as the game’s first true introductory boss for free-to-play players, while also offering a brutally difficult endgame variant for seasoned PvMers.

In this guide, we’ll break down everything you need to know about Brutus, from unlocking the fight to mastering both the standard and Demonic Brutus encounters.

Accessing Brutus

Before you can face Brutus, you’ll need to complete the quest The Ides of Milk. This is a short, free-to-play quest that takes roughly 5–7 minutes and introduces players to the boss encounter.

Once completed, Brutus can be found in the Lumbridge Cowpen.

Fastest Travel Method

· Use a Cowbell Amulet charged with air runes to teleport directly into the cowpen.

· Alternatively, standard Lumbridge teleports followed by a short run will suffice.

Regular Brutus: Beginner Boss Overview

The base version of Brutus is designed to teach fundamental PvM mechanics such as:

· Prayer usage

· Movement and positioning

· Recognizing attack cues

Gear Setup

Brutus is weak to all combat styles, making this fight extremely flexible.

Recommended setups:

· Free-to-play: Full rune armor, rune scimitar, amulet of strength

· Members: Any strength-boosting gear

· High-level players: No gear required (yes, it’s that easy)

Magic tip:

· Brutus has a 25% weakness to Earth spells, making them the optimal choice for mage setups.

Brutus Mechanics

Despite being beginner-friendly, Brutus introduces two core mechanics that players must learn.

Basic Attack

· Standard melee attack

· Fully negated with Protect from Melee

Stomp Attack

· Trigger: Brutus snorts

· Delay: 3 ticks

· Area:

  · 3x1 line if adjacent

  · L-shape if diagonal

How to avoid:

· Step back one tile

Charge Attack

· Trigger: Brutus growls

· Delay: 3 ticks

How to avoid:

· Move out of his path

Regular Kill Strategy

1. Teleport to the cowpen and initiate the fight

2. Activate Protect from Melee

3. Attack continuously

4. React to:

  · Snort → step back

  · Growl → sidestep

5. Loot and repeat

Sustain Tips

· Use dropped logs to cook T-bone steaks (heal 9 + give +2 strength)

· Restore Prayer at Lumbridge Church if needed

Regular Brutus Rewards

This boss offers surprisingly impactful rewards for free-to-play players:

Demonic Brutus Mechanics

This fight emphasizes:

· Movement precision

· Pattern recognition

· Prayer flicking

Key Differences

· Hits through Protect from Melee (max hit: 4)

· Immune to enchanted bolt effects

· Alternates special attacks after the first

Special Attack 1: Charge (Clone Rotation)

· Spawns 3 clones

· All charges in clockwise order

How to avoid:

· Move clockwise with them

Special Attack 2: Slam (Clone Rotation)

· Brutus teleports diagonally

· All clones slam in L-shaped AoE

How to avoid:

· Move one tile in the opposite direction

Phase Mechanics

Phase 1 Adjustments

· 500 HP: Faster specials

· 250 HP: Rotation switches to counterclockwise

Phase 2 (Triggered at 0 HP)

· Brutus heals to 487 HP

· Adds orb mechanic

Orb Attack

· 4 orbs appear above the player

· Each represents a combat style

Order:

1. Magic

2. Melee

3. Ranged

4. Random

Optimal strategy:

· Keep Protect from Melee active

· Tank first mage hit

· Flick remaining prayers while dodging

Advanced Strategy: Tile-Based Dodging

Efficient players use tile markers to minimize movement.

Core Concept

· Stand in the center tile

· Identify Brutus's spawn tile

· Move to the corresponding safe tile

Key Rule

· Always move to the tile farthest from Brutus’ spawn

This allows:

· Full dodge coverage

· Minimal clicks (2 movements per mechanic)

Full Demonic Brutus Kill Strategy

1. Pre-pot and overheal

2. Begin fight and position centrally

3. Use the spec weapon early

4. After 2–3 hits, prepare for specials

5. At 250 HP → switch to counterclockwise movement

6. Phase 2:

  · Focus on survival

  · Execute prayer flicks during orb attacks

7. Double-eat if necessary

8. Use remaining specs to finish

Demonic Brutus Rewards

· Brutus Slippers (guaranteed cosmetic)

· Beef Pet (1/400)

Final Thoughts

Brutus is one of the most well-designed additions to Old School RuneScape in recent memory. It successfully bridges the gap between early-game PvM and high-level bossing:

· The regular version teaches core mechanics in a low-risk environment

· The demonic variant tests mastery of movement, timing, and prayer flicking

Whether you’re a brand-new player stepping into your first boss fight or a veteran chasing efficient kills and pets, Brutus offers meaningful progression and replayability.
