OSRS Guide: How to Defeat Boss Vardorvis
Nov-12-2025 PSTVardorvis is one of the four main bosses from Desert Treasure 2 in Old School RuneScape. He’s a fast, aggressive melee boss with several mechanics that can punish mistakes, but once you learn his rhythm, he becomes an entertaining and rewarding fight. This guide will walk you through how to gear up, get to him, and handle his attacks step by step.
Inventory Setup
Here’s what I bring for a smooth Vardorvis kill:
Weapons & Tools:
· Burning Claws – these are amazing for special attacks and healing.
· Book of the Dead – required if you’re using Thralls.
· Ring of Shadows – I keep the Stranglewood teleport on mine for quick travel.
· House teleport tabs – to get out quickly after a trip.
Potions:
· 1x Super Combat Potion
· 3x Super Restores
Food:
· Anglerfish (for overheal before starting)
· Cooked Moonlight Antelope (great for countering bleed damage)
· Karambwans (for combo eating with sharks or anglers)
Gear Setup
You don’t need max gear for Vardorvis. Here are some strong and budget-friendly options. No need for too much OSRS gold.
Main Weapon:
· Best: Noxious Halberd
· Mid-tier: Abyssal Tentacle
· Budget: Abyssal Whip or Zombie Axe
Off-Hand:
· Dragon Defender or Avernic Defender
Helmet:
· Neitiznot Faceguard or Slayer Helm (on task)
· Upgrades: Serpentine Helm, Oathplate Helm, Torva Helm
Amulet:
· Rancour, Blood Fury, Fury, or Torture
Body & Legs:
· Bandos Chestplate + Oathplate Legs
· Alternatives: Fighter Torso, Barrows Gear, Torva Set
Gloves & Boots:
· Ferocious Gloves (best) or Barrows Gloves
· Primordial Boots, Dragon Boots, or Avernic Boots
Ring:
· Lightbearer – great for regaining special attack energy
· Other options: Ring of Suffering, Berserker Ring, Bellator Ring
Spec Weapon Alternatives:
· Dragon Claws, Voidwaker, Ancient Godsword, or Dragon Dagger (p++)
How to Get There
If you have the Ring of Shadows, use the Stranglewood teleport — it takes you right near the boss. If not, use the Fairy Ring code BLS, run west to the rowboat, and sail across. Follow the path south, then west until you reach the pyramid structure. That’s the entrance to Vardorvis. Be careful of Strangled enemies along the way — they can cause small amounts of damage.
The Arena & Mechanics
When you enter, stand on the central tile — I call this your “Home Base.” You’ll use this spot as a safe position during most of the fight.
1. Axes:
· Axes spawn around the room and move in straight lines.
· Up to three can appear at once.
· If one spawns next to you, step one tile out, then move back after it passes.
· Getting hit causes bleed damage — eat Moonlight Antelope to recover over time.
2. Ground Spikes:
· These are marked by cracked tiles. Avoid standing on them or you’ll take heavy damage.
3. Enrage Phase:
· Vardorvis slams the ground and red blood splodges appear (“Space Invaders”).
· Click on them quickly to avoid taking damage.
4. Skull Attack:
· Occasionally, a green skull appears and fires at you.
· Switch to Protect from Missiles when it appears.
· Switch back to Protect from Melee after you hear the hit sound.
Fight Strategy
Before the Fight:
1. Drink your Super Combat Potion.
2. Eat an Anglerfish to overheal.
3. Turn on Protect from Melee and Piety.
During the Fight:
· Tag Vardorvis and summon your Melee Thrall.
· Use your special attacks early for strong bursts of damage.
· Move one tile to dodge axes when they spawn.
· Handle the “Space Invader” phase by clicking red splodges fast.
· Listen for skull attacks and change prayers quickly.
· Heal and restore prayer when needed.
End of the Fight
As the fight goes on, things get more chaotic. Axes spawn faster, skulls appear more often, and tentacles hit harder. Keep at least 30% special attack for the final phase so you can finish the kill quickly with another Burning Claws spec. A normal kill usually takes around 2–3 minutes, but faster kills are possible with better dodges and timing.
Final Tips
Vardorvis might seem intimidating at first, but once you learn how to dodge axes and manage his mechanics, he becomes one of the most enjoyable bosses in OSRS. The quest version of Vardorvis in Desert Treasure II is easier, but this guide still helps if you’re facing him for the first time. Stay calm, react to the mechanics, and remember — even if you get hit a few times, that’s fine. The more you practice, the cleaner your kills will get.
