OSRS Ironman Limpwurt Roots Guide

Aug-23-2024 PST

In OSRS, as an Ironman, self-sufficiency is the key to progress. This means that gathering essential resources, such as Limpwurt Roots, becomes a critical task that requires planning and strategy. Limpwurt Roots are vital components for creating Strength potions and other useful items in the game. There are two primary methods for obtaining Limpwurt Roots as an Ironman: Farming and killing monsters. In this guide, we'll explore both methods in detail, providing you with the best strategies to gather Limpwurt Roots efficiently.

Farming: The Best Method for Acquiring Limpwurt Roots

Farming is hands down the most reliable and consistent method for gathering Limpwurt Roots over time. While killing monsters might yield a few roots during combat, it's Farming that will ensure you have a steady supply for your Herblore needs.

Getting Started with Farming Limpwurt Roots

To start farming Limpwurt Roots, you need to have at least level 26 in Farming. This might seem like a significant hurdle, but reaching this level is quite straightforward, especially if you follow a few key quests that grant Farming experience. The following three quests are recommended to get you to level 26 Farming efficiently:

1. Recipe for Disaster (Goblin generals subquest): This is the first part of the iconic Recipe for Disaster quest and provides a decent amount of experience, setting you on the right path.

2. Fairytale I – Growing Pains: This quest not only gives Farming experience but also introduces you to the world of magical farming equipment and techniques.

3. Forgettable Tale of a Drunken Dwarf: Another quest that adds up to your Farming experience, this one helps you reach that level 26 milestone.

Completing these quests in the suggested order should give you just enough experience to hit level 26 Farming, allowing you to start planting Limpwurt seeds.

The Tools You'll Need

Before you start farming, you'll need to gather a few essential tools:

Limpwurt seeds: The most critical item on your list, these seeds will be planted in flower patches to grow Limpwurt Roots.

    • Seed dibber: This tool is used to plant seeds in the ground.

    • Rake: You'll need a rake to clear any weeds from your farming patches before planting.

These items are relatively easy to obtain. A seed dibber and rake can be purchased from any farmer near a farming patch or from farming shops across Gielinor. However, acquiring Limpwurt seeds will require a bit more effort.

Acquiring Limpwurt Seeds

Limpwurt seeds are not sold in shops and must be obtained through various activities, particularly combat. Here are some recommended methods for obtaining Limpwurt seeds:

    • Killing Kurask: These monsters drop Limpwurt seeds fairly regularly and are a good source of herbs and other farming supplies.

    • Killing Mammoths: Found in the Wilderness, Mammoths are a good source of Limpwurt seeds but beware of player killers (PKers) in the area.

    • Farming contracts: Completing farming contracts at the Farming Guild can reward you with seeds, including Limpwurt seeds.

    • Killing Deviant Spectres: These monsters drop a variety of seeds, including Limpwurt seeds, making them a great target if you're also looking to train Slayer.

    • Killing Moss Giants: Moss Giants are an excellent choice for lower-level Ironmen, as they are relatively easy to defeat and drop Limpwurt seeds regularly.

Planting and Harvesting Limpwurt Roots

Once you have your seeds and tools ready, it's time to plant those Limpwurt seeds in a flower patch. Limpwurt plants can be grown in any of the seven flower patches available in OSRS. These locations are:

1. South of Falador

2. West of Port Phasmatys

3. North of Ardougne

4. North of Catherby

5. The Farming Guild

6. Prifddinas

7. South-West of Hosidius

Each Limpwurt plant takes approximately 20 minutes to grow. When fully grown, each plant yields between 3 to 12 Limpwurt Roots. The number of roots you can harvest scales with your Farming level, with an additional potential root added every 10 levels, up to a maximum of 12 roots at level 99 Farming.

While tools like the Magic Secateurs or different composts can increase your yield when farming other crops, they do not affect the number of Limpwurt Roots harvested. Compost, however, will improve the survival rate of your crops, ensuring they grow to full maturity.

With optimal Farming setups and quick farming runs, you can harvest an average of about 50 Limpwurt Roots every 20 minutes, making Farming the most efficient method for acquiring Limpwurt Roots.

Killing Monsters: A Secondary Method for Limpwurt Roots

While Farming is the most efficient method, killing monsters for Limpwurt Roots is another viable option, especially if you need a few roots in a hurry or if you're already training your combat skills. However, keep in mind that most monsters only drop a single, unnoted Limpwurt Root at a time, making this method less reliable for gathering large quantities.

Recommended Monsters to Kill

Here's a list of some of the best monsters to target when looking to collect Limpwurt Roots:

    • Hobgoblins: For free-to-play (F2P) Ironmen, Hobgoblins are the best option. They are relatively weak and drop Limpwurt Roots frequently.

    • Cockatrices: These monsters have one of the best drop rates for Limpwurt Roots in pay-to-play (P2P) areas, and they have low hitpoints, making them easy to kill.

    • Hill Giants: Another good option for F2P players, Hill Giants not only drop Limpwurt Roots but also Giant Keys, which can be used to fight the Hill Giant boss, Obor.

    • Turoth: These Slayer monsters drop a variety of herbs and alchable items along with Limpwurt Roots, making them a great target if you're also looking to train Slayer.

For those Ironmen who are up for a challenge, certain Wilderness bosses also drop 25 noted Limpwurt Roots at a drop rate of 1/25:

    • Callisto

    • Venenatis

    • Vet'ion

Be aware that these bosses are extremely dangerous and are located in the Wilderness, where other players can attack you. It's highly recommended to use a dedicated bossing guide and prepare adequately before taking on these foes.

Uses for Limpwurt Roots

Limpwurt Roots have several uses, primarily in the Herblore skill for creating potions. They can be combined with an unfinished Tarromin or Kwuarm potion to create Strength and Super Strength potions, respectively.

For free-to-play players, Limpwurt Roots can be used in the creation of Antipoison, Strength, and Energy potions through the Apothecary in Varrock. While Herblore is a members-only skill, F2P players can still create these potions by collecting the required ingredients and bringing them to the Apothecary.

Limpwurt Roots are also required for certain quests, such as the “Temple of Ikov” quest, where 20 Limpwurt Roots are needed to progress.

Additionally, a batch of 15 Limpwurt Roots can be given to the squirrel farmers on Fossil Island in exchange for protecting your trees from disease, making them a valuable resource for Ironmen who are invested in high-level Farming.

Conclusion

As an Ironman in OSRS, acquiring Limpwurt Roots is a task that requires both planning and flexibility. While Farming is the best and most reliable method for gathering large quantities of Limpwurt Roots, killing monsters can also provide a supplemental source, especially when you're in a pinch. By following the strategies outlined in this guide, you'll be well-equipped to keep your Herblore supplies stocked and your Ironman journey on track. Happy farming!
