OSRS: Moons of Peril Boss Guide

Sep-09-2025 PST

Old School RuneScape has received a fresh new PvM challenge: Moons of Peril. This piece of content is aimed primarily at mid-level players and those who are just getting introduced to bossing mechanics. Unlike many high-end bosses, Moons of Peril offers a more forgiving experience while still teaching fundamental skills such as timing, movement, positioning, and handling mechanics.

It's a chill, semi-AFK-friendly encounter that even allows for some multitasking if you like having RuneScape open while doing something else. At the same time, the unique boss fights, progression, and loot make it one of the most enjoyable side activities to try out.

Requirements

To access Moons of Peril, you'll need to complete the Perilous Moons quest. This quest requires you to defeat all three bosses at least once before completion, which makes it a natural introduction to the content.

While there aren't strict stat requirements, the RSorder recommends at least 70+ Attack, Strength, and Defence. Even at those levels, you'll feel the bosses hit quite hard. Defensive gear and a solid food supply are highly recommended.

Recommended Gear

Moons of Peril isn't about best-in-slot setups; it's about variety and adaptability. You'll need stab, slash, and crush attack styles for the different bosses.

Suggested Gear Setup

· Helmet: Barrows helmet or Bandos Faceguard (if available)

· Amulet: Amulet of Fury

· Cape: Fire cape (or best available)

· Body/Legs: Barrows' defensive armor (e.g., Torag's, Dharok's)

· Weapon:

  · Stab – Osmumten's Fang (or any strong stab weapon)

  · Slash – Zamorakian Hasta / Abyssal Whip

  · Crush – Dragon mace, Dragon Warhammer, or other crush options

· Shield: Dragon defender

· Gloves: Barrows' gloves

· Boots: Dragon boots

· Ring: Lightbearer (great for spec weapon synergy)

Optional spec weapons like a Dragon Mace or DDS can deal consistent burst damage when paired with the Lightbearer.

Supplies and Preparation

Each cavern has its own method of restocking food and potions, which is a unique feature of this content. You'll want to bring:

· Pestle and mortar – to make Moonlight potions

· Butterfly net + big fishing net – for food gathering

· Prayer potions – supplementing Moonlight potions

· High-healing food (optional; caverns also provide food sources)

Boss Order and Routes

The most common and efficient route is:

Yellow Moon → Blue Moon → Red Moon

· Yellow Moon (Northeastern cavern) – Weak to stab

· Blue Moon (Northwestern cavern) – Weak to crush

· Red (Blood) Moon (Southwestern cavern) – Weak to slash

After completing the cycle, you'll loop back to the starting cavern.

Boss Mechanics

Each Moon boss has two unique specials to master. These are mid-level mechanics that train you for harder endgame fights later on.

Yellow Moon Boss (Stab Weakness)

· Moon Ball Attack: A rolling projectile you must sidestep or walk alongside to avoid.

· Whack-a-Mole Mechanic: Boss disappears and reappears—attack the correct tile quickly.

Blue Moon Boss (Crush Weakness)

· Brazier Special: Light two braziers while dodging freezing storms (run gets disabled if hit).

· Frozen Weapon Special: Your weapon gets stuck in a pillar—attack it while dodging AoE blasts until it's freed.

Red (Blood) Moon Boss (Slash Weakness)

· Blood Barrage: Ranged blood attacks that deal heavy damage and heal the boss. Dodge frequently.

· Jaguar Special: A summoned jaguar and blood pools force you to juggle movement—click into the pool briefly to deactivate it, then return to DPS.

Rewards and Loot

Moons of Peril introduces several new armor sets with unique effects, adding more mid-level gear variety to the game.

From about 100 runs, players report earning ~12M OSRS Gold in loot, along with multiple set pieces. While not top-tier money-making compared to bosses like Zulrah or Vorkath, it's an enjoyable grind with solid profit and fun mechanics.

Why You Should Try It

· Teaches PvM fundamentals in a low-pressure environment

· Great for mid-level accounts looking to step into bossing

· Unique mechanics with built-in food and potion gathering

· Social element: you'll see other players “fighting” alongside you, even though it's instanced

· Decent money-making with new set pieces to chase

If you've been grinding towards more challenging encounters like The Gauntlet, Moons of Peril is the perfect stepping stone. It's approachable, rewarding, and—most importantly—fun.
