OSRS Pandemonium Quest Guide
Jan-29-2026 PSTThe Pandemonium quest introduces players to Sailing, Old School RuneScape’s newest skipper-focused skill. Serving as the formal tutorial for Sailing, this short quest teaches you how to operate a vessel, complete basic salvage and courier tasks, and navigate the waters around Tutorial Island.
This article provides a complete, step-by-step walkthrough of the Pandemonium quest, from starting the interview in Port Sarim to retrieving your first spyglass on the island of Pandemonium.
Quest Requirements
There are no:
• Skill requirements
• Quest prerequisites
• Item requirements
However, you must have:
• Two empty inventory slots
• Empty hands
No teleports are required for this quest.
How to Start the Pandemonium Quest
You begin the quest in Port Sarim, directly beside the food store. Look for the quest icon and speak to Will or Anne.
• Select Option 1 to begin the job interview.
• When you transition onto their ship, select Option 1 again to continue.
• The first salvage job begins as the crew introduces the Sailing interface.
Understanding the Sailing Interface
Once aboard, you will see three primary controls:
• Left button – Stop the ship
• Down arrow – Move backward
• Up arrow – Move forward
Before these controls function, you must click the helm at the back of the ship. Once activated, you can either click the movement arrows or simply click on the minimap to steer.
Sailing to the First Salvage Site
After the opening conversation:
• Click the helm to take control.
• Move south, around Tutorial Island.
• Between Tutorial Island and the Karamja Shipyard, Will and Anne will tell you to stop.
• Press the stop button immediately when prompted.
You may also occasionally trim the sails when the button appears. Doing so slightly increases your speed and grants a small amount of Sailing XP.
Salvaging Your First Items
Once stopped at the marked location:
• Deploy the salvage hook at the flashing hotspot.
• You will retrieve:
• An Old Cup
• A Mysterious Medallion
Will and Anne confiscate the medallion … and then promptly shove you overboard. Your character will swim to the nearby island of Pandemonium, where the next stage begins.
Meeting Steve Beanie and Ribs
Inside the Pandemonium pub:
• Speak to Steve Beanie, the bartender.
• He tells you that Ribs had his map stolen by Will and Anne.
• Find Ribs just north of the hole in the pub floor.
• Speak to him and choose any dialogue option—both progress the quest.
• Return to Steve Beanie and select Option 2, then either follow-up option.
Steve warns you not to disrespect anyone on this lawless island and sends you to Junior Jim, located northeast of the saw icon.
Working With Junior Jim: Building Your First Raft
Junior Jim offers a trade: he will give you a raft with a helm, but the sail is missing. To earn the sail, you must complete a courier job.
• Speak to Junior Jim to receive instructions.
• Walk slightly south to the dock and cross the gangplank.
• Take a hammer and saw from the crates.
• Board your raft.
• Build a Basic Cargo Hold at the construction hotspot (requires level 1 Sailing and Construction).
• Disembark and return to Jim.
• Jim gives you the Captain’s Log, which tracks tasks and progress.
Open the log—it instructs you to take cargo from Port Sarim to Pandemonium.
Sailing Back to Port Sarim
Board your raft again:
• Click the helm.
• Navigate north, circling Tutorial Island.
• Return to Port Sarim’s northern docks at the anchor icon.
• Disembark.
Important:
Do not leave the docks with cargo in your inventory. Port security will confiscate it. Inside the warehouse office (note icon), take the crate of cargo. Return to your raft, store the cargo inside the Basic Cargo Hold, and sail back to Pandemonium.
Returning the Cargo to Pandemonium
Upon arriving:
• Open the Basic Cargo Hold.
• Remove the cargo.
• Disembark at the anchor icon.
• Deposit the cargo on the coin-covered table.
You will receive Level 2 Sailing. Return to Junior Jim at the saw icon. He now gives several important explanations:
He sells more advanced vessels as your Sailing level increases. You can gain more Sailing XP by completing delivery jobs at notice boards. Your Captain’s Log explains world exploration routes. Repair kits can be used to fix storm or shark damage. The Spyglass is essential for charting and must be obtained from Charles in the island cave.
Before completing the quest, go back to the pub.
Completing the Quest
In the pub:
• Speak to Old Grock at the bar pumps.
• He begins searching for Will and Anne.
Quest Complete.
Rewards
• Access to the Sailing skill
• Access to Pandemonium
• A Raft docked at Pandemonium
• 300 Sailing XP
• 25 Sawmill Coupons (25 free planks)
Post-Quest: Obtaining the Spyglass
Head to the cave in the northeast corner of the island.
Inside, you will find:
• Charles, who gives you the Spyglass
• A Lead Mine (requires 25 Mining)
Speak to Charles again for extensive Sailing and charting explanations. He outlines six types of trackable points of interest, unlocked through later quests and higher Sailing levels, including currents, weather patterns, and sea depths.
Tracking these points grants shortcuts and awards Sailing XP. Charles also occasionally rewards OSRS gold coins. Before leaving, exit the cave and use the spyglass on the nearby water sparkles to complete your first manual charter. Return to your boat and store both the Captain’s Log and Spyglass in your cargo hold.
Important Warning: Do Not Teleport
If your raft is still docked at Pandemonium and you teleport:
• Your raft is moved to Port Sarim.
• Retrieving it costs 250 coins.
• All cargo/items in your hold are permanently lost.
Alternatively, you can pay 30 coins to travel back to Pandemonium from any Seaman NPC—these NPCs now offer Pandemonium travel in addition to Musa Point.
Final Thoughts
The Pandemonium quest is a straightforward introduction to OSRS Sailing, but it teaches several essential mechanics that you will use throughout the skill’s progression. By the end of this tutorial, you will know how to:
• Control a vessel
• Use the Sailing interface
• Perform salvage and courier work
• Use the spyglass and Captain’s Log
• Avoid losing your boat and supplies
With these fundamentals mastered, you are ready to explore the open seas, complete Sailing tasks, and upgrade your vessel as you advance the skill. Happy sailing.
