Before diving in, keep this simple tip in mind. Important Tip: Watch Your Minimap After Every Portal. Each time you pass through a portal, your ship will exit facing a new direction. Quickly check the minimap to see where your boat is pointing, then rotate your camera to line up correctly. This habit makes every route smoother.
Swordfish Trial Guide
Swordfish is the foundation for all Barracuda routes. The Shark trial follows nearly the same path, so learning this line is essential.
Start
Head straight, turn right for the first boost. Make a hard left around the pillar and skip the second boost. Go through the portal and rotate your camera to the right.
Early Section
Wiggle right to grab the crate. Use a boost, then make a hard left after the last crate. Straighten up and collect the box line. Go left around the rocks, use another boost, and enter the portal.
Mid Section
Rotate the camera left and turn right immediately. Ignore the first boost here; focus on grabbing crates. Use a boost after the last crate, then turn left. Rotate the camera behind your ship.
Straightaway
Sail straight and grab the blast box. Hard left, use a boost, then go straight. Hard right into the portal, camera behind again.
Crystal Area
Tight left turn, use a boost. Remove crystals by clicking the back of your boat. Enter the portal and rotate the camera right.
Final Stretch
Head right, boost, and navigate around the rocks (inside or outside, both work). Use one more boost and finish through the final portal.
Swordfish complete.
Shark Trial Guide
Shark is nearly identical to Swordfish until you reach the green portal. Follow the same steps as Swordfish through the early sections.
After the Green Portal
Rotate the camera right. Go around the rocks and use a boost. Another boost heading into the next portal. No camera rotation needed here.
Yellow Portal Area
Boost through the portal. Perform long, wide turns: Hard right - Hard left - Hard right. After the final turn, use a boost.
Ice Field and Finish
Clear ice by clicking the back of your ship. Use another boost. Navigate the final turns and rotate the camera behind you. Slight left turn, grab the boost, and head into the final straightaway. Boost again, wiggle for the crates, and finish with a hard left into the last portal.
Shark complete.
Marlin Trial Guide
Marlin is the most difficult trial. You must use the Crystal Extractor, located behind the helm. It takes about two seconds to activate, so only use it on straight sections. Below is the full optimal route.
Start
Head straight → right turn → small left turn. Boost through the portal and rotate the camera right.
Crate Line
Light wiggle right for the crate. Hard left, collect three crates ahead. Turn right and boost. Hard right into the portal, camera left.
Boost Section
Turn right for crate + boost. Boost again, hard left, camera behind. Skip the usual box on this stretch. Hard left → boost. Hard right into the portal, camera behind.
Outer Track
Hard left, boost. Hard right, follow the outer path. Use another boost.
Crystal Extractor Use #1
On the long turn, activate the extractor. Use a boost right after. Turn left then right for the crate. Boost into the portal.
Box Cluster
Pick up all boxes here to regain boosts. Boost through the yellow portal. Wide right turn, collecting crates. Boost through the corridor. Slip between two center boxes. Camera behind.
Crystal Clearing Section
Boost on the corner. Hard right → boost. Camera behind → turn left for a boost crate.
Crystal Extractor Use #2
On the long straight, activate the extractor again. Grab crate and boost. Use another boost on the next corner. Hard left into the portal.
Green Portal Area
Go straight. Big looping left to collect crates and a boost. Use that boost. Tuck left, stay inside, boost on the corner. Grab the end crates and boost.
Tight Turns
After the portal, turn left. Prepare for a tight right turn → boost mid-turn. Hug left, then left again.
Crate Pair
Stick left for crate #1. Hard right for crate #2. Boost. Use the extractor again. Stay inside, boost through the portal.
Final Section
Left turn, then follow the bend. Boost. Clear crystals. Camera behind → tight right turn. Nudge right for crate and take sailing boost.
Final Straightaway
Slight right, wide left arc, tuck right. Grab the last crate and use your final boost.
Marlin complete. Expect this one to take many attempts—it’s the toughest Barracuda route by far. All subsequent fish catches can be exchanged for the OSRS gold you need.
