How to Salvage Efficiently
Efficiency in shipwreck salvaging depends on multiple factors, including your ship upgrades, crewmates, and positioning. Optimizing these elements can dramatically increase both your Sailing XP per hour and loot value.
Ship Upgrades
Investing in ship upgrades is essential for maximizing XP and profits. Key upgrades include:
1. Purchasing a Sloop
· Unlocks at level 50 Sailing.
· Allows installing two salvaging hooks.
· Using a crewmate to assist greatly boosts XP and loot per hour.
2. Salvaging Station
· Requires level 42 Sailing and 34 Construction.
· Let's players sort salvage directly on the ship, granting loot and Sailing XP without returning to the dock.
· Obtaining schematics:
· Dig between two trees east of the Pandemonium Caves entrance to get a key.
· Use the key on a chest on Chinchompa Island to retrieve schematics.
3. Additional Upgrades
· Crystal Extractor – Provides 250 Sailing XP per minute when harvested.
· Cargo Hold – Increases storage, allowing longer AFK sessions.
· Salvaging Hooks – Improve chances of extracting salvage; always equip the best hook for your level.
Crewmates
Crews are essential for AFK efficiency. Each crewmate has three stats: Helmnsmanship, Privateering, and Deckhandiness, with Deckhandiness being the most important for salvaging efficiency.
Deckhandiness Salvaging Hooks Salvaging Experience Bonus
1 Up to Steel 10%
2 Up to Adamant 20%
3 Up to Rune 30%
4 Up to Dragon 40%
Best NPCs for salvaging:
· Cabin Boy Jenkins – Deckhandiness 4, unlocks at level 60, Sailing after completing Dragon Slayer 1. Found on Crandor. Requires Ghostspeak amulet or Morytania legs 2+.
· Jolly Jim – Deckhandiness 4, unlocks at level 85 Sailing. Found in Brimhaven.
Ship Positioning & Tick Manipulation
· Position your ship correctly: Ensure the salvaging hook faces the shipwreck for consistent loot.
· Double-ship spawns: Park between two wrecks to increase AFK time and loot.
· Tick manipulation: Clicking multiple salvages in sequence reduces intervals from 4 ticks to 2, potentially doubling loot rolls.
· Using a single hook: Equip a celastrus bark with a knife and follow a step-back technique to maximize efficiency.
Most Efficient Sloop Setup
For two-crewmate setups, the recommended sloop configuration includes:
· Best cargo hold available
· Dragon Salvaging Hook (most efficient; ~45M gold)
· Keg of Whirlpool Surprise & Keg of Horizon’s Lure
· Teleport Focus
· Crystal Extractor
· Salvaging Station
· Anchor
