OSRS Slug Menace Quest Guide: The Best-in-Slot Prayer Armor

Feb-04-2025 PST

The Slug Menace quest in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is an essential quest that every mid-level player should complete. Not only does it provide an engaging storyline and a mix of fun challenges, but it also unlocks the Proselyte armor set – one of the best Prayer armor sets in the game. If you’re looking to boost your Prayer bonus for AFKing or want a reliable armor set for your future endeavors, this quest should be a top priority. Here’s everything you need to know to complete Slug Menace and reap its fantastic rewards.

Why You Should Complete Slug Menace

Proselyte armor, unlocked after completing Slug Menace, is one of the most highly sought-after Prayer armor sets in OSRS, especially for players at mid-levels. This set provides an impressive +18 Prayer bonus, only surpassed by the Sunfire Fanatic armor, which is both rare and expensive. With its low cost and ease of access, Proselyte armor is perfect for those who want to enhance their Prayer abilities without breaking the bank. Whether you're grinding Slayer, engaging in AFK combat, or tackling high-level bosses, having a full Proselyte set will significantly improve your efficiency.

So, if you’re tired of grinding combat tasks or OSRS gold without the right gear or just want to make your Prayer training easier, completing Slug Menace is a must.

Before You Start: Requirements

Before you dive into the quest, you’ll need to meet a few requirements:

Skill Requirements:

30 Crafting

 30 Runecrafting

 30 Slayer

 30 Thieving

These are the minimum skill levels required for the quest. Be sure to have these stats or use appropriate boosts before you start.

Quest Requirements:

 Wanted!

 Recruitment Drive

 Black Knights' Fortress

 Druidic Ritual

 The Lost Tribe

 Rune Mysteries

 Goblin Diplomacy

 Enter the Abyss

 Priest in Peril

 Sea Slug

If you haven't completed these quests already, it’s time to knock them out of the way before starting Slug Menace.

Essential Items:

Commorb (obtained from Sir Tiffy Cashien)

 Swamp paste

Dead sea slug (obtained during the quest)

At least 5 rune or pure essence (bring 15-20 to be safe)

 Chisel

 5 open inventory slots

Once you have these items in your inventory, you’re ready to begin!

Short Guide: Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Quest Start: Talking to Sir Tiffy Cashien

Head to Falador Park and speak to Sir Tiffy Cashien to begin the quest. He’ll give you some background information about strange events happening in Witchaven.

After a brief chat, Sir Tiffy will upgrade your Commorb to version 2. Keep an eye on it throughout the quest for messages from Savant, an important character in your investigation.

Investigating Witchaven

Witchaven is where the majority of the quest takes place. First, speak to Colonel O'Niall on the northeastern dock. He’ll be concerned about the mayor’s odd behavior.

Afterward, visit Brother Maledict in the church and Mayor Hobb in his house. Mayor Hobb will be suspiciously secretive, but once you finish your conversation, wait for Savant to contact you through the Commorb and scan the mayor.

The Shrine Investigation

Go west of Witchaven to a ruined shrine. Enter the dungeon and look for a red section on your minimap. Push the false wall to reveal a tunnel, but be careful – level 45 giant lobsters lurk inside.

At the end of the tunnel, you’ll find an imposing door that deals 5 damage if you try to open it. Allow Savant to scan the door and grab the dead sea slug nearby.

Finding the Missing Pages

Swamp paste and the dead sea slug are now crucial for progressing.

Speak to Colonel O'Niall, Brother Maledict, and Mayor Hobb again. You’ll need to find three missing pages for the mysterious book:

  1. One is on the mayor’s desk.

  2. One is with Ezekial Lovecraft at the fishing store.

  3. The final pieces are from Colonel O'Niall himself.

Crafting the Special Runes

Now it’s time to craft special runes using the pages you’ve gathered.

You’ll need a chisel, 5 rune or pure essence (bring extra just in case), and access to the various rune altars.

The pages instruct you to craft modified runes: Air, Water, Fire, Earth, and Mind. You’ll likely fail at first, so bring extra essence.

Once you’ve crafted the runes, it’s time to head to the following altars

 Air Altar south of Falador.

 Mind Altar north of Falador.

 Water Altar south of Lumbridge.

 Earth Altar northeast of Varrock.

Fire Altar west of Al Kharid.

The Final Battle

Return to the shrine with your runes, and use them on the imposing door.

Now, prepare for battle with the Slug Prince (level 62), a boss that can only be damaged using melee attacks. The Slug Prince will drain your prayer points, so bring prayer potions and food to stay alive.

The fight can be made easier by safespotting with a halberd behind the stone pillars.

After defeating the Slug Prince, you’ll witness a cutscene. Then, head back to Sir Tiffy Cashien in Falador Park to complete the quest.

Quest Rewards

Upon completing the Slug Menace quest, you’ll be rewarded with:

 1 Quest Point

3,500 XP in Crafting, Runecrafting, and Thieving

Unlock Proselyte Armor (best-in-slot Prayer armor)

Temple Knight promotion to Proselyte rank

The Proselyte armor is a game-changer for any player looking to boost their Prayer stats, making it an essential part of your mid-game gear set.

Final Thoughts

The Slug Menace quest is a pivotal part of progressing through OSRS, especially for those who want a reliable, low-cost Prayer armor set. With a bit of preparation and the right items, completing this quest will unlock Proselyte Armor, one of the best Prayer bonuses available for mid-level players. The quest offers a satisfying mix of exploration, puzzles, and combat, with the bonus of being relatively easy to complete.
