OSRS Summer Summit 2024: A Look Ahead to New Content and Updates

Sep-14-2024 PST

Old School RS (OSRS) fans, brace yourselves—it's that time of year again! The Summer Summit has kicked off, and it's one of the most exciting events for the community. This year, the Summit offers us a roadmap of upcoming content spanning the next six months and beyond, with major releases planned into 2025. From new bosses and skills to innovative game mechanics and quality-of-life updates, Jagex has a lot in store for players.

Here's a detailed breakdown of everything you can expect in OSRS following the 2024 Summer Summit.

Vmore Part 2: The Rising Darkness

Coming up on September 25th, 2024, we'll see the highly anticipated release of Vmore Part 2: The Rising Darkness. The Vmore area expansion brings with it a wide variety of new content, including skilling activities, quests, boss fights, and brand-new locations. But perhaps the most thrilling addition is the Houi Caddle, a new group boss who will be available to fight in the Hilstrom Mountains.

Houi Caddle: A Boss for All

The Houi Caddle offers a unique opportunity for players at different skill levels. It's designed to be accessible for mid-level players, though high-level players will find it challenging and enjoyable as well. You can fight the Houi Caddle with up to 20 friends, although it can also be soloed by the brave. The boss itself seems to be dragon-like, adding to OSRS's long-standing fascination with powerful draconic creatures. Defeating Houi Caddle will reward players with exciting new items like the To of Earth, a Dragon Enter Wand, a new range set, and even seeds for growing a new herb.

New Herblore Content

Alongside the boss, Herblore fans are in for a treat with a substantial update. The Mixology Training Method is being introduced as a new way to utilize herbs, offering players an alternative training method that comes with exciting rewards. Among the updates is the Pre-Ot Device, allowing players to drink multiple pre-potions at once when standing at a bank—an incredible quality-of-life update.

But that's not all. We're also getting two new potions: a Go Potion, which makes nearby monsters aggressive, and a Prayer Regeneration Potion that restores prayer over time. Additionally, players will receive a secondary pouch for Herblore secondaries and a brand-new Herblore outfit. This update will be a game-changer for those who enjoy skilling in style.

More Quests and Agility Training

New quests will also arrive with Vmore Part 2, including a murder mystery quest that rewards a butler outfit and Heart of Darkness, a substantial story quest involving the Tapac Ruins. The latter will feature a final boss, though its details remain secret for now.

To top things off, we're also getting a new agility training method aimed at mid to high-level players. This activity is low-intensity, perfect for those who like to train while multitasking, and it will come with the Vmore version of Graceful, which we suspect might be more than just a recolor.

Rathma: The First World Boss

November 2024 will bring the release of the first-ever world boss in OSRS, Rathma. This boss will spawn three times a day on five worlds, either in multi-combat or single-combat wilderness zones. Rathma's appearance will be reminiscent of the chaos from Deadman Mode Breaches, where players come together (or against each other) for a chance at fantastic loot.

The rewards for participating in Rathma's boss fight are tied to your involvement, so multiple players will be able to gain items. The central reward is the Teeth of Rathma, which can be spent at a shop for an Amulet of Wrath, increasing damage against Rathma. Additionally, wilderness teleport tablets will become available, allowing for quick traversal across the wilderness.

Another fascinating addition is PvP weapon amplifiers for items like the Armadyl Godsword, Dark Bow, and Volatile Nightmare Staff. These changes promise to spice up the wilderness meta, making Rathma an event that not only PvMers but also PvPers will be eager to take part in.

The Royal Titans: A New Low-Level Boss Fight

For newer players or those who enjoy lower-level content, the Royal Titans boss fight will be introduced in spring 2025. The encounter features the Eldrich Ice King and Fire Queen, two giant bosses that players will have to defeat simultaneously. Unlike the Giants' Trifecta which requires keys, this boss fight will not, making it easily repeatable content for lower-leveled adventurers. This boss will be located in the Asgarnia Ice Dungeon and will be perfect for players seeking more accessible content without high skill requirements.

Project Zanis: Community-Created Servers

One of the biggest and most intriguing announcements is Project Zanis, set to revolutionize the way people play OSRS. This project will introduce community-created servers, allowing players to modify the game in new and unique ways. Want to limit yourself to the Morytania region or recreate popular game modes from Gillanor Games? Project Zanis will make this possible.

Although many questions remain about the implementation—such as who can host servers and what limitations there will be—the possibilities are endless. This project could radically change OSRS, offering players a level of customization never seen before in the game's history.

The Future of the OSRS Client: HD and Plugins

An update regarding the Old School RuneScape client reveals that HD graphics are planned for an early 2025 release. This is exciting news for players who've long awaited an HD option. Additionally, a new plugin API will soon be available to plugin developers, allowing the most beloved third-party plugins to be integrated into the official client.

The goal is to funnel players toward the official OSRS client, thereby reducing cheating and botting. Once implemented, the client will release some of the community's favorite plugins, making it easier and more enjoyable to use.

Leagues 5: The Raging Echoes

Scheduled for release in November 2024, Leagues 5: The Raging Echoes will bring exciting new mechanics to the league's format. The introduction of Combat Masteries promises to shake things up, pulling major combat relics into a dedicated system while leaving relics for other quality-of-life improvements or skilling.

Each area will feature enhanced bosses that will drop unique items not found in the main game, and they will also have different mechanics to keep things fresh and engaging for seasoned players.

Vmore Part 3 and the Enrage Boss

Spring 2025 will also see the release of Vmore Part 3: The Final Dawn, expanding the Vmore region further and offering a challenging new Enrage Boss. The Doom of Makia will be OSRS's first enrage boss, allowing players to continuously revive and fight increasingly difficult versions of the boss for better loot. This solo encounter will cater to a broad range of players, offering intense and rewarding PvM content.

Closing Thoughts

The 2024 Summer Summit has shown that the future of Old School RuneScape is brighter than ever. With new bosses, skilling updates, quests, and game-changing mechanics like Project Zanis, there's something for every type of player. Whether you're excited about world bosses, crafting your own server rules, or simply exploring new areas, the next year promises to be packed with thrilling content and innovations.
