OSRS Tempoross Fishing Guide

Oct-10-2025 PST

Tempoross is one of Old School RuneScape's most unique skilling bosses, offering a fresh take on fishing that's far more interactive and rewarding than traditional AFK methods. Instead of simply waiting for fish to bite, players face off against the mighty “Spirit of the Sea” in a group or solo encounter that combines fishing, cooking, construction, and even a little firefighting.

In this guide, we'll cover everything you need to know about Tempoross, including requirements, how to get there, mechanics, a full solo strategy, and of course, the rewards and XP rates you can expect.

Requirements to Fight Tempoross

Tempoross is a members-only minigame with minimal entry requirements:

· 35 Fishing (minimum to participate)

· No gear is strictly required since all essentials are provided on the boat.

However, there are a few highly recommended items and abilities that make things smoother:

· Dragon Harpoon (61 Fishing required) – Boosts catch rates with its special attack.

· Infernal Harpoon – Cooks fish automatically as you catch them, saving time.

· Humidify Spell – Great for instantly filling buckets. Requires the Dream Mentor quest and access to the Lunar spellbook.

· Barb-tail Harpoon – A useful alternative since it's wieldable, saving inventory space.

How to Get There

Tempoross is located deep in the desert, but reaching it is simple. Players can take the dedicated boat from Al Kharid's docks (north of the Shantay Pass).

There are several dedicated Tempoross worlds where large groups gather, but the minigame is also fully soloable. In this guide, we'll focus on the solo method.

Understanding Tempoross Mechanics

Once aboard, you'll find three important UI bars in the top-left corner:

1. Energy Meter (Top Bar) – Tempoross's shield. Lower it by firing cooked harpoonfish from the ship's cannons.

2. Essence Meter (Middle Bar) – Tempoross's true HP. You damage this by fishing from the “spirit pool” when his energy is down.

3. Storm Intensity (Bottom Bar) – A timer mechanic. If it reaches 100, you lose. Each time you drop Tempoross's shield, it resets to zero.

After three shield breaks, Tempoross becomes enraged and storm intensity rises much faster, forcing you to finish quickly.

Fishing and Cooking Harpoonfish

· Fishing Spots: Harpoonfish can be caught from spots around the island. Occasionally, a “double spot” spawns where fish jump, giving double catches. RuneLite's Fishing plugin can highlight this for easier tracking.

· Cooking Fish: You can cook harpoonfish at the shrine before loading them into the ship's ammo crates. Cooked harpoonfish deal more damage to Tempoross's energy bar.

· Spirit Pool: Once Tempoross's energy reaches 0, fish here to damage his essence directly.

Tempoross's Special Attacks

Tempoross doesn't deal damage to players, but he disrupts your progress with unique mechanics:

· Giant Wave – Sweeps the entire island. Tether to a mast or totem pole using a rope (or the Spirit Angler's outfit). Failing to tether knocks you back and makes you lose items.

· Lightning Storm – Clouds summon lightning that starts fires on the island. Extinguish them with water buckets before they spread.

· Torrent Attack – Tempoross disables a cannon temporarily. You can dodge this by stepping away, but it's minor.

Tip: When Tempoross's energy is below 10%, he won't use special attacks. Skilled players hover around this threshold to fish safely before pushing the phase.

Solo Strategy – Full Run Walkthrough

A typical solo run goes like this:

1. Phase 1 Preparation

  · Fish about 17 harpoonfish, cook them, and load them into the cannon. This gets Tempoross's energy below 10% early to avoid special attacks.

  · Use the downtime to gather more fish and cook them.

2. Cannon Management

  · For each shield cycle, aim for 19 cooked harpoonfish:

    · 1 to break the shield.

    · 1 extra cannon shot.

    · 17 to prep for the next cycle.

3. Firefighting for Points

  · Use spare time to collect buckets and extinguish fires. This doesn't boost Fishing XP but greatly increases your points, meaning more reward permits.

4. Enrage Phase

  · On the third shield break, Tempoross enrages. If you preloaded enough fish, you can drop his energy a fourth time before storm intensity maxes out, squeezing in extra points before finishing at the spirit pool.

A solid solo run takes about 12–14 minutes, yielding around 1 reward permit per minute.

Rewards and Loot

After each game, you'll receive reward permits:

· 2,000 points = 1 permit.

· +1 permit for every 700 points beyond that.

You can store up to 8,000 permits before redeeming them at the reward pool near the docks.

Common Loot

· Fish (scales with your Fishing level – best rewards at 81+ Fishing)

· Spirit Flakes – 50% chance to catch double fish (works outside Tempoross). Can also:

  · Upgrade the Angler's Outfit into Spirit Anglers (cosmetic + auto-rope tethering).

  · Recolor the Heron pet into a blue variant.

· Soaked Pages – Charges the Tome of Water.

Unique Rewards

· Fish Barrel (1/400) – Stores raw fish and auto-fills while fishing.

· Tackle Box (1/400) – Stores fishing tools and gear (bank space saver).

· Tome of Water (1/600) – Magic off-hand, functions like water runes when charged.

· Big Harpoonfish (1/600) – Cosmetic house decoration.

· Tiny Tempor Pet (1/8,000) – The rare fishing pet from Tempoross.

· Dragon Harpoon (1/8,000) – Same odds as the pet, tradable and valuable.

XP & GP Rates

· Fishing XP: ~50–60k XP/hr at higher levels.

· Cooking XP: Passive XP from cooking harpoonfish (scales with level).

· Construction XP: Small but steady from repairing masts and totems.

For profits:

· ~6.8k GP per permit at level 81 fishing.

· With 50–60 permits/hr, expect around 375k–400k GP/hr alongside strong XP.

Final Thoughts

Tempoross is one of the best designed skilling activities in OSRS. It offers:

· Solid XP rates from level 35 all the way to 99 Fishing.

· Decent OSRS gold on the side.

· Multiple useful unique items, especially the Fish Barrel.

· An engaging alternative to the AFK grind of traditional fishing methods.

Whether you're chasing 99 Fishing, hunting the Tiny Tempor pet, or just looking for a fun break from other methods, Tempoross is well worth your time.
