OSRS: The Fractured Archive - First Look
Jan-26-2026 PSTDeep beneath Gielinor lies something far more deliberate than a forgotten cavern. Hidden in the earth is a carefully constructed repository—an ancient archive etched over millennia. Its shelves hold countless curiosities, tomes older than any living scholar, and artifacts of such power that even the gods once hesitated before them. This secret sanctum was no accident. Guthix himself designed it to protect his most treasured and enigmatic possessions.
This is the Fractured Archive—and in 2026, Old School RuneScape players will descend into its depths as part of the game’s fourth raid.

The Summit has finally given us a first glimpse at the project, and while Jagex is keeping many details locked away for now, what we do know paints the picture of the most intense raiding experience OSRS has ever attempted.
A Raid Rooted in Guthixian Legacy
The Fractured Archive isn’t just a dungeon—it is a vault of the god of balance, built to house artifacts so powerful they once inspired Guthix himself. Yet the secrecy of the cavern is unraveling. Word has spread across Gielinor, and by the time you and your teammates arrive, you will not be the first to trespass on its sacred grounds.
During your expedition through the Archive’s ancient halls, you will face:
• Agents of other gods
• Mysterious creatures
• Guardians shaped by Guthixian magic
• Rival treasure seekers
• And finally, an ultimate protector tasked with defending the vault at any cost
Your objective is simple—prevent the relics stored within from falling into the wrong hands. Achieving that goal, however, will be anything but simple.
A Return to Theatre of Blood-Style Design
Jagex has confirmed that The Fractured Archive will follow a structure inspired by Theatre of Blood:
• No puzzle rooms
• A sequence of powerful demiboss encounters
• A final, climactic boss fight
• Tight, execution-focused mechanics
The design philosophy is deliberate: simple mechanics, high optimization ceiling. This gives elite players space to differentiate themselves, while still offering a challenge that groups can learn and refine over time.
While the developers are not ready to discuss precise difficulty tuning, they have made one point clear—this raid is intended to push the community further than ever before.
Soloable, But Not for the Faint of Heart
Players will have the option to attempt the raid solo. However, the Fractured Archive is being planned to scale between 2 and 8 players, and solo clears are expected to be extremely challenging.
Key early-day constraints include:
• A full team wipe resets the entire run
• Fixed difficulty on release
• No TOA-style repeated attempts
• No “brute force” strategies via honey locust mechanics
Only after the initial competitive period will Jagex roll out a Tombs of Amascut-style wipe system, allowing infinite attempts at reduced reward rates.
This structure aims to create a high-stakes World First race and a thrilling first few weeks where every pull matters.
Practice Mode Arrives Later
To keep early competition purer, Jagex is delaying the release of Practice Mode, which will eventually allow raiders to jump directly into individual boss encounters at normal difficulty.
This mode is expected to arrive in the weeks after launch, once the initial rush of discovery has settled.
A Quest Requirement With Implications
Access to the Fractured Archive will require completion of While Guthix Sleeps. This is a controversial but intentional decision, and Jagex acknowledged that this lockout may impact certain restricted account types.
They plan to address these concerns in a future blog, but for now, players should simply be aware that the Archive is gated behind one of the game’s major storyline quests.
Concept Art: The First Glimpse of the Archive
We were also treated to an initial selection of concept art—and it paints a vivid, imposing image of Guthix’s subterranean masterpiece.
The Environment
Guthix’s organic, nature-imbued design philosophy is on full display:
• Tree roots woven through stone
• Overgrown greenery reclaiming ancient halls
• Natural rock formations integrated into the architecture
The result is a space that feels both sacred and ancient, a natural world protected rather than conquered.
The Archive Guardian
A towering construct that has slumbered for thousands of years. Unmoved, unbroken, and unimpressed by mortals, the Guardian’s sole directive is to defend its domain against any intruder.
Ezekiel – Saradomin’s Enforcer
Unlike the serene priests many players associate with Saradomin, Ezekiel takes a much harsher approach. He is here to secure artifacts worthy of the god of order, and he will unleash unrestrained violence to accomplish that goal. Expect a formidable encounter from a warrior dedicated to his divine mission.
Rewards: Details Coming Soon
Jagex is not ready to reveal the raid’s drops, but they have outlined a new approach—small, focused discussions on one or two rewards at a time. This should prevent any single item from dominating the conversation and allow for more collaborative iteration with the community.
Expect the first reward-focused blogs in the coming months.
Looking Ahead to Late 2026
The Fractured Archive is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated updates in Old School RuneScape’s history. With its blend of lore-rich design, deliberate mechanical difficulty, and a bold new rollout plan, this raid represents the next evolution of endgame PvM.
This early preview is only the beginning. Throughout 2026, RSorder will have more blog news about this. Guthix’s greatest secrets lie fractured beneath Gielinor—and soon, players will venture into the Archive to claim them.
