OSRS Throne of Miscellania Quest Guide

Nov-10-2025 PST

Get ready for a quick yet detailed guide to the Throne of Miscellania quest in Old School RuneScape! This classic quest opens the doors to Miscellania management, letting you earn passive resources daily through your kingdom’s subjects. Along with this, you’ll unlock the Miscellania teleport via the Ring of Wealth and gain 1 Quest Point.

Before diving in, make sure you’ve completed The Fremennik Trials and Hero’s Quest—these are both required to begin. There are no skill requirements, though having 10 Farming and 35 Herblore will make gaining approval during the quest much easier.

Required & Recommended Items

Required items:

  • 1 × Iron bar

  • 1 × Gold ring

  • Regular logs

  • A rake (if you have 10+ Farming) or a pickaxe (for mining approval gain)

Recommended items:

  • 15 coins (to buy flowers)

  • Weight-reducing gear and 2 stamina potions

  • Cake or chocolate cake – if you want to marry/befriend the Prince

  • Bow (e.g., shortbow or oak shortbow) – if you want to marry/befriend the Princess

  • Teleport to Miscellania (via Fairy Ring or boat)

  • One extra teleport for when you finish the quest

You can befriend or marry either the Prince or Princess, regardless of your character’s gender.

Getting to Miscellania

If you have completed Fairy Tale Part II. Use any fairy ring (e.g., CIP code) to reach Miscellania. The South Graveyard Teleport is a quick way to reach a ring if you have a Dramen Staff equipped.

If you haven’t completed it. Travel to Rellekka, go to the northern dock, and speak to the sailor by the large boat. Choose “Miscellania” to travel there. Once docked, head west and slightly north to reach the castle courtyard.

Starting the Quest

Talk to King Vargas inside Miscellania Castle. After a short chat, select “Yes” to start the Throne of Miscellania quest.

You’ll then decide which royal you want to impress:

  • Prince Brand – choose “I want to earn Prince Brand’s approval.”

  • Princess Astrid – choose “I want to earn Princess Astrid’s approval.”

If you change your mind, simply talk to the king again to switch paths.

Befriending or Marrying the Princess

Head north from the throne room into Princess Astrid’s chamber and speak to her. You’ll need to correctly answer a few dialogue questions. The correct responses appear in random order but should include:

    • “Haha, he’s been very helpful.”

    • “Archery is a noble art.”

Afterward:

1. Use your flowers on her and select Yes.

2. Perform the Dance emote and continue through dialogue.

3. Talk to her repeatedly, choosing the correct answers:

    • “That sounds like a good idea.”

    • “What happened next?”

    • “I’m quite fond of it myself.”

4. Use your bow on her → select Yes to gift it.

5. Perform the Blow Kiss emote and continue chatting.

6. Talk to her again, selecting:

    • “And what a great bard he makes.”

    • “I suppose you don’t have much opportunity to.”

    • “It’s a lovely little country.”

7. When she begins calling you “dear,” blow her a kiss again, then use your gold ring on her to propose.

Choose Yes or No—either choice progresses the quest the same way.

Gaining Approval Rating

    • Once you’ve won over the Princess (or Prince), head outside the castle to the farming patches east of the gate.

If you have 10+ Farming, rake the flax and herb patches.

    • If you don’t, skip raking and instead mine coal north of the castle.

Each weed raked gives ~1% approval, and each coal mined gives ~0.75%. You’ll need 75% approval to complete the quest, though 100% is recommended for a Fremennik Hard Diary task.

Meeting Queen Sigrid

After some raking, cross the bridge northeast into Etceteria, then head south inside the castle and climb the staircase. Speak to Queen Sigrid and go through her dialogue.

Once done, return to King Vargas in Miscellania and report back. You’ll now move between the two castles multiple times—each trip raking weeds or mining along the way to boost your approval.

Fixing the Anthem

Talk to Prince Brand in the northwest room of the castle to receive an Awful Anthem. Next, speak to Advisor Ghrim (north room, southwest corner) to improve it into a Good Anthem.

Signing the Treaty

After fixing the anthem, go back to Queen Sigrid in Etceteria. She’ll sign a treaty. Bring it back to King Vargas to progress the quest. He’ll tell you to gain full support from the people. Talk to Advisor Ghrim again to check your approval rating. Keep working (raking or mining) until it’s 75%+.

Crafting the Giant Pen

To sign the treaty, you’ll need a Giant Pen:

1. Talk to Derrik in the building with an anvil icon (north of the castle).

2. Select “I have a slightly strange request.”

3. He’ll give you a Giant Nib.

4. Use the Giant Nib on your logs to make a Giant Pen.

Return to King Vargas one last time and talk to him to finalize the treaty and complete the quest.

Quest Rewards

Upon completion, you’ll receive:

  • Access to Miscellania Management (the kingdom management minigame)

  • Ring of Wealth teleports to Miscellania

  • 1 Quest Point

Post-Quest Tips

  • After the quest, speak to Advisor Ghrim to manage your kingdom.

  • Invest OSRS gold coins daily to collect resources like herbs, coal, and maple logs over time.

  • Keeping your approval rating at 100% maximizes profits, so visit occasionally to maintain it.
