RuneScape 3 Fishing Guide 2025
Jul-02-2025 PSTFishing is one of the foundational skills in RuneScape 3 (RS3). Despite the thrill of combat and the lure of high-level bossing, fishing remains a core activity that every player must eventually master. Whether you're aiming to complete quests, earn RuneScape gold, or simply enjoy a relaxing AFK activity, leveling your fishing skill will be essential.
In this comprehensive guide, we'll walk you through everything you need to know about becoming a master fisherman in RS3 — from essential gear and buffs to the best fishing spots and training methods, all the way to level 99 and beyond.
Why Train Fishing?
Fishing is a gathering skill, which means you spend time collecting resources — in this case, fish. It is ideal for players who want to AFK while making steady gold and XP. As you progress, the quality of fish you catch improves, meaning better gold per hour and better resources for cooking or selling.
Fishing is also a requirement for many important quests. Some of the notable ones include:
· Tai Bwo Wannai Trio (Fishing 5)
· Fishing Contest (Fishing 10)
· Land of the Goblins (Fishing 36)
· Rum Deal (Fishing 50)
· Heroes' Quest (Fishing 53)
· Swan Song (Fishing 62)
· Some Like It Cold (Fishing 65)
· Deadliest Catch (Fishing 70)
· Crocodile Tears (Fishing 72)
· Head of the Family (miniquest) (Fishing 90)
Additionally, to unlock the prestigious RS3 Quest Cape, a minimum of level 90 fishing is required. For the aerial achievement tasks, level 96 fishing is necessary.
Preparing to Fish: Useful Buffs and Items
Before diving into the actual training, let's cover the important gear and buffs that will boost your fishing efficiency and experience gains.
Fishing Outfit
The Fishing Outfit can be bought from the Fish Flingers minigame reward shop (560 tokens total, 140 tokens per piece). Each piece grants a 1% XP boost, and the full set gives a total 5% experience boost.
Shark Outfits
Available from level 70 fishing onwards, the shark outfits (shark, burnt shark, tiger shark) are craftable from fragments obtained while fishing. Combined, they create the Fury Shark Outfit, which offers:
· A 5% fishing XP boost
· A 7% increased chance of catching fish
· A 10% chance to catch two fish at once (double XP)
· A 60-70% chance of not consuming bait
· Immunity from aggressive Living Rock Creatures
· Ability to toggle between receiving fish and destroying them for XP
Requires level 80 fishing and 20 invention to craft.
