The 2025 OSRS Bossing Ladder - Ranking Every PvM Encounter

Sep-05-2025 PST

Every year, the PvM landscape in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) shifts with new bosses, reworks, and mechanics that shake up the difficulty ladder. This year's bossing ladder follows the same rules as before: while PvM difficulty is always somewhat subjective, we'll rank every encounter based on mechanics, punishing potential, and the gear you're reasonably expected to have at that point in progression. Mega-weapons like the Tumeken's Shadow can trivialize certain bosses, but unless otherwise noted, we'll assume standard setups for each tier.

Where applicable, we'll separate solo vs. group encounters, as well as difficulty variants, to give you a clearer sense of when you might make the jump from mass worlds to solo challenges. With all that out of the way, let's dive into the official 2025 OSRS Bossing Ladder—starting with the bosses that don't really count as PvM.

Honorable Mentions – The “Skilling Bosses”

Some activities are technically classed as bosses, but they're more about resource gathering and training than true PvM challenges:

· Gemstone Crab – Now a staple AFK activity, offering solid XP with minimal clicks. Don't underestimate it, though—hardcore players have still managed to die here.

· Tempoross – Essentially a fishing mini-game. In mass worlds, it's a quick, social grind; solo “firefighter” runs add a touch of movement and pathing practice.

· Wintertodt – No longer directly damaging thanks to updates, but letting your warmth meter drop still means certain death. Easy to manage, but careless mistakes cost lives.

· Volcanic Mine – The hardest of the “skilling bosses.” Falling rocks and glyph mechanics make it punishing if you stop paying attention, but still far removed from true PvM.

With the “silly” encounters out of the way, let's move into the actual boss ladder.

Easy Tier Bosses

These encounters are often the first true PvM challenges for new players. They're simple, lightly punishing, and great training grounds for fundamentals.

· Kraken – A classic beginner boss. Minimal mechanics, passive healing gear like the Sanguinesti Staff makes it effortless. The newer Eye of Amlodd is a solid alternative DPS weapon.

· Giant Mole – Benefiting from new elemental weaknesses, it now takes extra damage from Earth spells (especially with a Tome of Earth). A simple fight, but still rewarding.

· Bryophyta – Free-to-play's magic-based giant. As long as you pray Mage and clear the minions, there's little threat. Now killable without a mossy key, though loot requires one.

· Obor – Stronger than Bryophyta thanks to his big melee and ranged hits. Low-level players can get smacked around fast, but simple prayer and melee DPS carry the fight.

· Mimic – A short DPS check. Either burst it down with special attacks, or pray for melee and dodge candy projectiles until the fight ends.

· Thermonuclear Smoke Devil – Fast kills, especially with cannon setups and Red-X mechanics. Alternatively, magic and freezes work smoothly.

· Barrows Brothers – Easier than ever thanks to elemental weaknesses and gear improvements. Still a key gear progression step for Ironmen.

· Scurrius, the Rat King – A newer addition. Great for teaching positioning, prayer switches, and even 1-tick mechanics. Excellent practice for higher-level PvM.

· King Black Dragon – Still easy, though traveling to it remains risky. Melee is viable, but ranged remains the safest and most consistent.

· Hespori – Pray mage, sip anti-poison, and watch your HP for the root entangle special. Quick and easy, especially for Ironmen chasing the Bottomless Compost Bucket.

Medium Tier Bosses

Here, bosses introduce heavier mechanics and punishing mistakes, but most remain very manageable with practice.

· Sarachnis – Annoying minions can deal chip damage, but high crush weapons and prayer keep it simple. Aranea Boots now make it effectively AFK.

· Skotizo – Bring a Dark Totem and Arclight for an easy kill. Pillar mechanics and minions add flavor, but the fight isn't threatening.

· Corporeal Beast – Far less intimidating than its reputation suggests, especially when its stats are drained. Duo or solo, it's more chicken than beast these days.

· Emoxilatl – A newer Valamore boss requiring quest completion. Teaches floor hazard dodging, prayer deactivations, and ice block mechanics—great stepping stone PvM.

· Ankou – Starts simple, but dodging the tail slam is crucial. Coordinating in groups is the real challenge, especially with randoms.

· Royal Titans (Fire Queen & Ice King) – Mid-level accounts get meaningful gear upgrades here. Juggling flames, freezes, and gear switches feels rewarding.

· Dagannoth Kings – Old-school trio. Prayer flicking and positioning are the main hurdles, but great drops make it worthwhile.

· Deranged Archaeologist – Simple, but punishing if you don't dodge his “Learn to Read” book attack, which can hit massive damage.

· Kalphite Queen – Still hits like a truck, but overheads are more like suggestions than absolutes. A grindy, tank-and-spank fight.

· Wilderness Bosses (Crazy Archaeologist, Calvar'ion, Spindel, Venanatis, Chaos Fanatic, Chaos Elemental, Scorpia) – Individually, none are very complex. The real challenge is surviving PKers while deep in the Wilderness.

Hard Tier Bosses

These are the first encounters where mechanics, DPS checks, and punishing mistakes truly matter.

· TzTok-Jad & Fight Caves – The waves are the true challenge, not Jad himself. Still the most iconic OSRS milestone.

· Moons of Peril (Valamore) – Triple-boss encounter reminiscent of Barrows, but more punishing. Drops strong gear upgrades.

· Commander Zilyana (GWD) – Melee-only range cycle makes her easy to kite, but mistakes get punished fast.

· Grotesque Guardians – Now soloable with melee thanks to the Noxious Halberd. Still a unique DPS cycle fight.

· Abyssal Sire – Recent buffs to Demonbane weapons make it far smoother. Still punishing if mechanics are ignored.

· Mass Nex – Easy in big groups, but mechanics like her shadow phase can still punish inattentive players.

· Entry Mode ToA (Raids 3) – Soloable at base 60 stats. A fantastic intro to raiding, though higher invocations scale sharply in difficulty.

· Kree'arra (GWD) – Awkward without Tumeken's Shadow. Ranged and positioning are essential.

· Alchemical Hydra – Slayer-exclusive boss with fountain mechanics. High damage spikes if you fail prayer switches.

· Vorkath – Still the most popular money-dragon. High-damage specials, but plenty of reaction time makes it fair.

· Duke Sucellus – Massive quality-of-life updates make this boss far smoother. Potions stack between kills, improving farm efficiency.

· K'ril Tsutsaroth (GWD) – Antidotes and prayer management are key. Without mega-weapons, still threatening.

· General Graardor (GWD) – Bandos hits brutally hard, and without Bofa door safespots or top-tier gear, trips can end quickly.

· Cerberus – Very punishing, with mechanics capable of dealing 90+ damage. Still a slayer-task staple.

Final Thoughts

The 2025 Bossing Ladder highlights how diverse OSRS PvM has become. From low-effort AFK bosses like Kraken to mechanically dense encounters like Hydra and raids, the game offers a wide range of challenges. Many old bosses have been modernized with elemental weaknesses or item synergies, while Valamore and other updates continue to add fresh encounters to the ladder.

Whether you're an Ironman progressing through gear stages or a main chasing pets and uniques, there's never been a better time to tackle every boss OSRS has to offer.
