The Final Dawn: OSRS's Epic Conclusion to Varlamore's Expansion

Mar-10-2025 PST

OSRS community is buzzing with excitement as Jagex unveils the final chapter of the Varlamore expansion: The Final Dawn. This highly anticipated Master-tier quest will serve as the conclusion to the ongoing Varlamore storyline, shedding light on the mysterious Old Ones while introducing new bosses, unique rewards, and an innovative delve system. Let's dive into everything you need to know about this monumental update.

Quest Requirements and Rewards

To embark on The Final Dawn, players will need:

66 Thieving

• 52 Runecrafting

• 52 Fletching

• Completion of Heart of Darkness and Perilous Moons

• Recommended: Level 80 Combat

Completing this quest will grant players three Quest Points along with the following rewards:

• 55,000 Thieving XP

• 25,000 Runecrafting XP

• 25,000 Fletching XP

• 555,000 Combat XP (in lamps, freely assignable)

• Access to the Doom of Makot delve boss

• A powerful new melee weapon

The New Melee Weapon: A Dragon Scimitar Alternative

The Final Dawn quest will introduce a new melee weapon as a guaranteed reward. This weapon, requiring 60 Attacks, is comparable to the Dragon Scimitar but features a unique special attack.

Special Attack: Burn Effect and Accuracy Buff

• Costs 30% special energy

• Grants +50% increased accuracy for the next attack

• A successful hit applies a burn effect to the target, dealing 10 damage over 40 ticks

• Can stack, similar to the effect of Burning Claws

While the Dragon Scimitar will likely remain the go-to choice for raw DPS due to its higher Strength bonus, this new weapon's special attack makes it an excellent alternative for niche scenarios. The burn effect adds passive damage, making it particularly effective in longer fights or against enemies with high Defense.

Untradeable with a Repurchase Option

If lost, the weapon can be reclaimed for 75,000 OSRS gold, similar to the Helm of Neitiznot. In PvP, if lost on death, the PKer will receive 75,000 GP instead of the weapon itself.

Doom of Makot: OSRS's First Ever Delve Boss

The most groundbreaking addition in The Final Dawn is Doom of Makot, OSRS's first-ever delve boss. This repeatable boss encounter introduces a scaling difficulty system, where players can choose to keep fighting increasingly powerful versions of the boss for better rewards—or leave with what they've already earned.

Delve Mechanics: Increasing Difficulty and Better Loot

• After each victory, the boss descends deeper into its burrow

• With each descent, the boss's attack rate increases and special attacks become harder to react to

• Higher delve levels unlock better loot, with some unique rewards only available at deeper tiers

• Players must complete all delve progress in a single run, as returning to the surface resets progress

Death Consequences: Risk vs. Reward

• Players can leave at any point to secure their rewards

• Dying resets the delve run and forfeits all loot earned in that session

• Encourages high-risk gameplay, rewarding skilled PvMers who can push deeper levels

Eight Delve Levels and an Endgame Challenge

The delve system has a hard cap of eight levels, after which players can repeat the toughest challenge indefinitely. Designed for players level 120+ combat, this boss is a perfect challenge for those seeking endgame PvM content, particularly Infernal Cape holders.

New Fletching Activity: Totem Crafting in Auburn Veil

Skilling enthusiasts will also find something to enjoy with the new Fletching-based activity in Auburn Veil. This area is home to magical ants who reward players for recycling unused bows, crossbow stocks, and shields into totems.

How Totem Crafting Works

• Choose a scenic location and craft a totem

• Observe the area to determine which three animals are most common

• Gather logs (higher-tier logs allow totems to last longer)

• Carve the logs into blank poles, then shape them to match the observed wildlife

• Decorate the totem with leftover bows, crossbow stocks, and shields

• Ants will visit and leave offerings based on the totem's score

• Collect offerings for XP and unique rewards

This activity is accessible from level 15 Fletching, but the best XP rates begin around level 50. Since it requires logs, this could help maintain demand for high-level wood like Magic Logs and Redwoods.

New Slayer Dungeon: The Custodia Pass

For Slayer enthusiasts, The Final Dawn will grant access to Custodia Pass, a dangerous new Slayer dungeon located on the border between Varlamore and Kandarin.

Introducing the Custodian Stalker

• A brand-new Slayer monster exclusive to this dungeon

• Features different combat levels and mechanics

• Expected to drop valuable Slayer-related items

This new Slayer dungeon adds variety to the late-game Slayer experience while introducing fresh content for task-based combat training.

Final Thoughts: A Historic OSRS Update

The Final Dawn is shaping up to be one of OSRS's most ambitious updates to date. It brings a Master-tier quest, a new guaranteed melee weapon, and introduces delve bosses to OSRS for the first time. The risk-reward system of the Doom of Makot, alongside new Fletching and Slayer content, ensures that this update caters to both PvMers and skillers alike.

With OSRS constantly evolving while staying true to its old-school roots, The Final Dawn marks an exciting new chapter—one that players won't want to miss.
