Wintertodt Guide for OSRS - 2025 Update

Aug-20-2025 PST

Wintertodt is a Firemaking boss in Old School RuneScape that offers fast Firemaking experience and useful loot. It only requires level 50 Firemaking to participate, but other skills like Woodcutting, Fletching, Herblore, and Construction are also used during the activity.

What Changed Recently?

Wintertodt no longer deals regular damage to your hitpoints. Instead, it now lowers your warmth. Your Hitpoints level doesn't matter anymore—everyone uses the same amount of food. However, if your warmth hits zero, you can still die, and it's not a safe death for Hardcore Ironmen.

How to Get There

The fastest way to Wintertodt is using a Games Necklace to teleport to the Wintertodt Camp (after you've visited Great Kourend at least once). Other options include:

· Fairy Ring (code CIS)

· Arceuus Library teleport

· Minecart system from Zeah (no favour needed)

What You Need

Here's a quick list of essential items:

· Axe: Any will work, but Steel or better is recommended.

· Knife: For Fletching logs into kindling.

· Hammer: For fixing braziers.

· Tinderbox: To light braziers.

· Food: Any food that heals 4+ HP will restore 35% warmth. Cakes are great.

· Warm Clothing: You need 4 pieces to reduce cold damage. The Clue Hunter outfit is a free option.

You'll also make Rejuvenation potions during the activity, which heal 30% warmth per dose. You can grab vials and herbs in the camp.

How Wintertodt Works

Wintertodt is fought in a large room with other players. The goal is to chop bruma roots, burn them, and keep the braziers lit while avoiding damage from cold attacks.

There are five main attacks:

1. Cold damage over time – stronger when braziers are unlit.

2. Brazier breaks – move one tile away to avoid damage, then repair.

3. Snowfall attack (3x3 area) – step away to avoid.

4. Brazier extinguishing – relight it quickly.

5. Pyromancer knocked out – heal with a potion so the brazier works again.

Playing a Game

1. Wait in the lobby of an official Wintertodt world (e.g. World 307).

2. When the game starts, light a brazier.

3. Chop bruma roots from the nearby tree.

4. Fletch them into kindling (optional but gives more points).

5. Burn logs/kindling in the brazier.

6. Heal pyromancers and repair braziers when needed.

7. Avoid cold attacks and snowfall.

8. Repeat until the game ends.

To receive loot and bonus XP, you must earn at least 500 points during a game. Fletching can help you reach that.

XP and Profit

· At level 50 Firemaking: ~160k XP/hour

· At level 99 Firemaking: ~320k XP/hour

· Slower than burning logs but much more profitable

· Faster than bonfires and more engaging

Rewards

You get rewards from a crate near the bank after the game. The more points you earn, the more loot rolls you get:

· 500 points = 2 reward rolls

· 1,000 points = 3 reward rolls

· +1 roll for every additional 500 points

Loot quality improves with higher levels in several skills (like Firemaking, Woodcutting, Herblore, etc.).

Rare rewards include:

· Tome of Fire

· Phoenix pet

· Dragon axe

· Pyromancer outfit (1/150 chance per piece)

Tips

· Use safe tiles to avoid the 3x3 snowfall.

· Fletch near braziers so you can repair or relight them quickly.

· Try soloing once you're confident—you'll get more rewards since there's no point cap.

Final Thoughts

Wintertodt is a great way to train Firemaking while making money. With the new warmth system, it's more balanced for all OSRS accounts. Whether you're going for 99 Firemaking or hunting the pet, Wintertodt is one of OSRS's best skilling activities.
